Am I Being a Baby About This?

So I recently purchased my W1000X's. People revel in the beauty of their finish. People pay good money for them. I'll cut to the chase.

These brand new headphones have something that I haven't seen in other's photos. Serious blemishes in the varnish on either side of one cup.
Am I being a baby for wanting to request an exchange from the retailer and or contacting Audio Technica? I really wasnt expecting this.

You bought them retail?  I'd definitely take them back to the shop
and tell them this is not acceptable.  Especially for this product,
this is part of the reason you're buying these versus some other
model, right?

Either get an exchanged for a perfect pair or your money back.
Or, if the blems don't bother you -- other than the fact that
you paid full price -- then ask for a discount.  Totally justified
IMO.

They're from BuyDig, which is Beach Camera's outlet or something. Beach Camera is a authorized AT Retailer.

Which means dealing with RMA and return shipping. Ugh.

I think I'd go through the bother and deal with that . . . in other words I'd return them for certain.

They look like they should be "B Stock"

i wouldn't take it, to be fair.
Take them back if it really bothers you.

It really does seem like "B" stock. It's just too much money spent to not be completely happy with it.

I've since contacted Audio Technica and Buy Dig, hopefully someone will make it easy for me. The wife let me get this for busting my ass this year so it's somewhat of a disappointment.

No I would be looking to return them as well if the wooden cups where damaged that much on a new pair maybe this is why buydig is selling them so cheap at only $429? when they usually go for $500+ on other sites.

I highly doubt it. I've purchased on their crazy sales before, like my old W5000's and had no issues in the past.

I'd email BuyDig now requesting an RMA and giving your reason;
and I'd phone them to follow up at the first opportunity (IIRC they're
open Sundays, but not Friday nights or Saturdays).

I've bought some high quality gear from them - photographic and audio -
and have found them to be 100% above board with excellent customer
service.

I've since received the replacement and they are quite better. One cup has a small black knot looking thing in the wood, doesn't quite look like a knot, and while it's not exactly attractive I still decided to keep it. Maybe I'll have the parts department just send me another if I ever have some cash lying around. I wanted them to look exactly like the picture, but I can't be a perfectionist when wood will be wood.

I'll have pictures up soon.
