Haha some people with medium and large headbands on their Qualia had to put sponges or pads on the headband to get a good fit and therefore get the best sound out of them.

Maybe not needed, but it seems to help. I'm basing this on my Andromeda vs Andromeda S experience. The S had a slightly more prominent midrange and a slightly narrower (perceived) soundstage.

I am thinking that I should give the Z1R another try. Several people seem to love it. 5mn in, playing out of my WM1Z, I was amazed by the stage and bass, and then the voices came in.

Recessed, dry, metallic tone. Not music. At all. So either the pair at the Sony store is defective or I'm missing something here.

I agree, I also think the the stock IER tips are a little different and much better than the black Sony tips.
