Hey why did you have to buy the OFC plugs for? Can't just you just buy a 4 pole 2.5mm or 4.4mm trrs connector and just re-treminate the plug on the stock cable or it doesn't work that way? I was just thinking of buying a balanced 4 pole connector and re-treminate it
Actually I reterminated 2 of the Sony stock cables using the normal pentaconn, the OFC one is on a final audio cable, because the colors matches the Xelento that I use the cable on, I think you should consider these http://e4ua.jp/?p=2825 they are expensive but you are opened to thousands of MMCX cables, I was hesitated on purchasing this adapter because of the prices, this was about many months back, and because of this, the price has going up, and instead of using the EX1000 connector, they use the EX800 instead, probably because there is no more stock. Anyway I have places an order for one.

Sorry for the confusion, I thought you just re-treminate with stock cable. Anyway is it possible to re-treminate the ex1000 with just a 4 pole Furutech 2.5mm connector with the stock cable ? I don't want to change the MMCX, I just want to re-treminate the stock 3.5mm jack with a 2.5mm balanced jack. Would that make the ex1000 balanced with the pioneer xdp300r?

If you have the Stock Japanese version cable, not possible using the stock USA version, you can re-terminate to balanced 2.5mm, 3.5mm balanced or 4.4mm balanced.

Thank you very much, I have Japanese cables!! Didn't know there was 3.5mm balanced. You know if its also possible to re-treminate the MDR-7550 to balance like the EX800? I know there suppose to be the same but wanted to make sure before I buy connectors and parts. (cheers) mate :)

It has not been confirmed the EX800/7550 can be re-terminates, because no one has striped the cables before, the EX600 and the USA version EX1000 has the EX600 cables RK EX600, it's not possible because it only contains 3 wires whiles the ground cables is split into two at the Y section to form a ground for both left and right ear piece.

As for the 3.5mm balanced, only the Sony Zx2 has use for this cable.

It a save bet getting this adapter, since most of the EX1000 cables has been sold, the rest with inflated price, Sony has also stopped production of this cable, with remaining stock all sold out. It's expensive but worth the investment, expect about 18500 yen a pair.

Luckily I have a backup cable -.-;

Btw, I’ve been listening to the MDR7550 more than EX1000. It’s really easy going to my ears and I love the lifelike and emotional vocals.

Amazing how the EX1000 still retains the cult status and a very active thread.
Almost ashamed to say I returned mine, but despite the great qualities, we weren't a perfect match. Strangely, I still miss the little guy somehow, guess that says a lot.

The Ex series somehow has the SQ, that current IEM, can't match, although some of the new release, can be said is better.
