Rank the Headphones that You Own.

Thats what I started with

my first three were Koss KSC75, Grado SR60i and Denon D1001.  I still have some variation of those three.  The KSC75 and porta pros are still stunningly good.  I just wore mine walking the dog yesterday and thought, "I still can't effing believe something this cheap designed 20 years ago is still this good."  I've heard several $300+ headphones that I think the KSC75/porta pros beat.

I had some variant until recently. I made a KSC35 with the SportaPro drivers, but they died. I gave away the KSC75 drivers on the SportaPro clips. Still want to try a Grado Headphone. Likely the Alessandro MS1.

Yes sorry somehow missed that on your list?!?! I suppose I was dazzled by the other headphones you listed. They are great little phones.

Mine currently on lone to my father. Least I can do as I used to listen to his Koss headphones in the '70s!

My last list doesn't have them, as I don't own them anymore. If its in any list, its one several years old.

Crikey I have got things mixed up now. I meant Shell of Light's list (post 5637). My excuse is it's Xmas eve and I've had a drink or three. Sorry I'll go away now before I make more of a fool of myself!

Merry :christmas_tree: Christmas

Edition S over GH1, interesting.  I've always been told by the Grado people that the GH1 is the best thing going in Grado, and the Hifiman fans seem to mostly ignore or dislike the Edition S.

For being new, you've tried a pretty high end stable of headphones.

Ya I know, I've read much of the Grado forum.  Granted I had the GH1 with stock pads only, not the upgraded L cushions (or whichever people seem to like better).  Also I do believe had I had an amp to drive these phones the list would most likely look different.

6  Akg Q701 bass modded

Wow, from 9.5 to 6?  What was the bass mod, the sticker removal?  Never did the mod myself but remember that the mod was praised!

Also very high score for those Q701!  Why so high on the list?  Any magic or sacrifice happened to get them so high?

Yeah, I use the stock one much more. I DUNU but they were bass modded when I received them. The bass has more presence, but unlike some graphs that show just more added sub bass, what I heard was completely different. It cut some of the soundstage from the q701, and some of the air was also cut which hurt the instrument separation a bit. Not to say they become bad headphones, but imo it defeats the biggest strengths of the q701. On a technically capable level, there are better headphones if you just want more bass. It's like trying to make the hd600 into an hd800 or vice versa. Still great headphones if you don't mind sacrificing some soundstage for extra bass. The reason why the Q701 scored so high was because those were the first headphones I got as my "hifi" set, and after repeated attempts to upgrade them, I couldn't find something that can truly beat them in what I was looking for, so then I realized upgrading to a more expensive headphone is not always necessary. The reason why it didn't score perfectly was mainly because the hd800 does everything a lot better, and the mids were something I wanted more of (which the k601 does). The list is also influenced by value and comfort which the q701 does amazingly
