1. HFM HEX v2, HFM HE-500 (heavily modded)
2.Senn HD-600

Owned all these in the past year, all sent away because they couldn't contend with the the 3 above:

Audeze 2C - reputation far outweighs what it is, thankfully seller took them back
MD 4xx - cute, but then you hear the mylar chuffing, and the "fun" response curve - gave to son
HFM HE5-LE - remembered better than it was, too bright, too moody.
HFM HE5se - dynamically limited, OK at $300 if you must, audio milqetoast.
MD X00 - just awful, even with mods, 2nd worst buy after Audeze
Fostex FH500RP - has fans, good, maybe they'll buy when it's out of mothballs.

I want an E2 or Voce next. Bunch of audio gear on the way out to pay for it.

You’d be disappointed with the Ether 2.

i have similar on the full size side. i got rid of my HD800. didn't like it too much. choose between that and LCD2 classic or 3F i kept audeze.

ranking one mine is:

lcd2 classic
lcd3f
JH3A/JH16A (this thing i would put the same level as audeze 2/3 level)
Sine
Sony ma900
HEM2 (got it for around 35USD, damn great value)
fostex t50rp 3 (just got it today stock form)

i had purple heart too used for a little bit and sold made 100 bucks. it's ok for the price. but never can compare to planar.

It has a similar sound signature to that of the Audeze house sound, but it's more neutral with little to no peaks in the treble. My favorite headphone.

It sounds like an Audeze? 2C (which I dislike) or the 3, which is pretty good, but too expensive.

Yes, but not as recessed in the treble. It also goes lower in the bass.
I have the LCD x and would say that they have deeper bass than the ether 2. The ether 2 is more balanced than most audeze cans. I have listened to the ether2 a couple of time but it was after listening to the LCD 4z and the other times it was after listening to the diana phi and ab1266 tc. So they sounded veiled after that .

Never saw this thread before ...

1) final D8000 w/final Silver cabling (induces a blissful state)

2) Focal Utopia w/Norne Audio Draug Silver cabling (a temperamental headphone, but it does have its moments)

3) final Sonorous VI w/final Silver cabling (the biggest overachiever, in my view)

4) Sonus faber Pryma (I love Italian design and these are a steal at $249)

I think 3 is overpriced as it doesn't sound all that resolving. Pretty much the same resolution of LCD2 wtih a different tuning, so it's not that impressive.

Audeze tend to be recessed in the upper-mids. 2C has the most recess. Is the E2 a bit recessed in the upper-mids?
