was reading some posts and they seemed to say it will stick to your tip and be hard to get off, possibly wreck the tip, but so long as you get it all off without obviously heating up the tab too much, apparently yes you can replace it with other solder once clean. Not many posts to search through actually ( 2 pages worth ) best have a look to be sure, I just searched " aluminum solder "

That does help tremendously thanks. Saved me.

AKG K26P / K414P pads are very good fit diameter-wise. ( these are from the  wang-yifei seller on fleabay )
Pic here from a post earlier. I just have them casually mounted ( until I decide to open them or not ) but should fold out the flaps to glue directly to the pad rears and it would bring things closer to the ear for a slightly shallower fit, then fold flaps over the edges of course.
If you want better pictures and/or as close as possible measurements let me know.

Well i ordered some K414p pads, and some of the flatter looking 55mm pads i think i linked to earlier. Slow boat from china so it could be april before they get here.

Still haven't swung by biglots for some memory foam, or other dense but pliant foam, but I'm going to give that a try. 'course, I haven't even glued these back up yet.

Most of my hobby time got sucked up by repairing my 2007 GTI, and then a little into working on my 1984 Jetta 1.6TD.

I know its off topic but awesome to see another dubber on head fi! I drive a 2012 Jetta GLI which I absolutely love. The 2.0t is such a timeless engine

Indeed. The TSI in yours has the timing chain and reasonable fuel system that my FSI lacks. I'm looking at an intake cam replacement sooner or later, or i can keep replacing cam followers every 10-15k miles. fwiw i drove over something that smacked the driver side bottom locator pin on the intercooler dead on, and pretty hard, and that was probably why the driver side top locator pin, on the cold side end tank, broke off and put a 1.5" hole in the charge air system. I got a pretty good deal on a shipping damaged (but still fully functional) SPM intercooler upgrade, and installed my water/meth injection nozzles while i was at it. The throttle body spacer was a huge pain in the butt. I almost wish i'd cleaned my intake valves while i had the bumper off and everything. Then again, now that I've had that stuff off, I know that it's not the end of the world to get that stuff apart. Just a lot of little things. A couple hours to get in there, a couple hours to put it all back together.

Tomorrow i should call the local GIAC dealer and find out what it's going to cost me to step up a level of tune. And what the DSG tune is going to cost me. So i can budget for the future.

Won't be a problem for me since Russian is my first language.

I can give you a link for thread describing the process, reviews by other owners etc. , but it's in Russian, so... http://forum.doctorhead.ru/index.php?showtopic=15330&st=0 I'm not a DIY guy at all, so I can't comment on this.

Rehousing of the ТДС-15? I think that the foldable headset is good. How about new ear pads instead of replacing the whole headset- any recommendations?

BTW - where did team PMB go? My modification of the RT10 ( some time ago now ) is quite a success, so I'd be happy to hear further impressions from team PMB on their modifications!

So i decided to have an audiological weekend rather than wrench on volkswagens again.

Busted the driver clips off of the yhd-3 baffles, re-soldered the wires (using some strain relief tubes from a kanen headphone), and siliconed the drivers into the baffles.

I did make it to biglots, and the bag of 20-some assorted makeup sponges does include some sponges that are a fit for the original pad covers. I haven't cut the centers out yet. latex foam is tricky to cut straight. I may try a wrench socket and a c-clamp, though that may adversely crimp the foam.

If that works out well, I'll have to find some thicker, larger discs and see if i can do something similar to my K145.

Decided to try jb-kwik to repair the right side ear cup. if that doesn't work I'll attempt a solvent weld.

would take pictures but i am waiting for silicone to cure.

Well stuff is going ok. I should look into recommended damping strategies. I guess Yamaha was employing some front damping on these, since the fabric is thinner on the back. If i decide to lose that fabric, I'll do that with a knife and then might have to re-silicone the driver face to the baffle.

Oh, some of my ebay pads turned up. These were the ones just listed as 55mm pads. I have another set coming eventually.

For kicks i went with a double layer of Viva paper towel (which is cloth-like) and a bit of 1/4" thick low-density open cell.

Mostly because i was lazy and i still haven't figured out where my quarter yard of the dense black felt went. I really should go looking for some more felts.

fwiw, i got some sontara aviation wipes, and they are textured in such a way that i think they are likely not a high enough density to be useful for damping. Might be useful as a wind break over cup vents.

This basically works. the latex (or visco anyway) makeup pad foam with a 1" hole in it is doing an ok job of an ear pad with the original fabric. Stuck back on with some strips of my industrial grade doubletape.

I have a rattle can of plasti-dip here, which i might use to both blacken and seal the white foam i used.
