While waiting for my hifiman shell I made a baffle for the t50 driver out of plywood. Is there any reason I should switch to mdf or a soft tonewood like limba for an open back t50? I have a sheet of black limba on order for possible closed cups, so it's possible to just use that. Anything else I should be concentrating on with the driver enclosure design here? Or just snug fit?

Plywood? I don't know...I use MDF in my baffles as I simply had it on hand and its easy to work :)...would be fun to see if plywood is better...

Plywood was only because I had a sheet in my garage!

LMAO...Necessity is the mother of invention...I love when I finish a build and realize half the materials and tools needed were already in my house.

I'll redo them in limba. Only issue is the limba is 1 15/16 perfect for closed cups, but way to thick for a baffle. So I have to take a chunk and have it planned down to maybe 1/2 inch?

My first baffles were 1/2 inch thick (1/4 inch outside the cup, 1/4 inch in). That eats up a lot of room in the cup though, and if you want ten ending up a useable height, you need to conserve that as much as possible, so my next iteration will have 1/4 inch outside, and an 1/8th inside...we'll see what the decreased mass does. I am compensating slightly by not making a dish on the ear side of the baffle this time around.

Well my first goal is open cup, so doesn't matter volume inside really. I'm sure the inch of side/reflective surface matters though.

Going to use this wood on a T50RP woody asap. Liking the contrast....(not this cup though)
Just messing with lacquer treatment on a cup just now...

South-east Asian rainforest hardwood. Want to use it with my LCD's and try and get 3 strong tone areas across the wood.
