I just started a thread if you want to check it out. http://www.head-fi.org/t/756150/i-have-started-work-on-these-fully-custom-headphones-3d-printed-and-cnc-wood-cups-t50rp-drivers
I think the best part about these headphones is their dynamic range. Everything just sounds like it has so much space to breathe in these. That combined wight the soundstage make them great
While waiting for my hifiman shell I made a baffle for the t50 driver out of plywood. Is there any reason I should switch to mdf or a soft tonewood like limba for an open back t50? I have a sheet of black limba on order for possible closed cups, so it's possible to just use that. Anything else I should be concentrating on with the driver enclosure design here? Or just snug fit?

I'll redo them in limba. Only issue is the limba is 1 15/16 perfect for closed cups, but way to thick for a baffle. So I have to take a chunk and have it planned down to maybe 1/2 inch?

My first baffles were 1/2 inch thick (1/4 inch outside the cup, 1/4 inch in). That eats up a lot of room in the cup though, and if you want ten ending up a useable height, you need to conserve that as much as possible, so my next iteration will have 1/4 inch outside, and an 1/8th inside...we'll see what the decreased mass does. I am compensating slightly by not making a dish on the ear side of the baffle this time around.
