Grado modders go Magnum

Thanks. That mesh was made by a head-fier many years ago and sold for $ 10 (shipped). I'm happy that I got a pair back then.

When I modded these cans with the Magnum drivers I wanted to keep it simple and light.

Well... it took me almost forever, but finally I managed to find some spare time to finish a build and I just wanted to share it with you guys (sorry for the terrible pictures):

Some info, just in case anyone is interested:

Headband: Turbulent Labs Grado leather headband XL (inner frame salvaged from SR-60)
Rodblocks and gimbals: Concord Custom Lab
Cups: Aluminium, turned by a local machinist
Sleeves: Maple, turned by fleasbaby
Drivers: Symphones V8
Pads: Generic G-cush (I'm waiting for some L-cush to arrive, the ones I had just desintegrated in my hands while trying to install them, and I don't really like them with TTVJ flats).
Cable: Custom made, braided cable (the composition of each individual cable is: 24 awg, .50 microns 24k gold plated solid core 6N OCC copper conductor, cotton sleeve, teflon insulation, tinned copper tubular braided shield, teflon insulation, nylon multifilament sleeve).
Connector: Furutech FT-763R

Special thanks go to @fleasbaby for accepting the task of turning a set of wonderful (it still amazes me how perfectly they fit even though you did not have the actual cups with you) wooden sleeves for my not so standard cups, thanks!

Hope you like it guys!

I like this build a lot!

I use the Turbulent Labs padded headbands in my builds as I find them to be very comfortable. I've also used the Concord Custom Lab gimbals & rod blocks for a few builds, though only the polished finish to date. The satin finish gimbals & blocks looks great with the polished cups and satin grille - very clean, professional look. Those twin cable bosses are a nice detail, and the cable looks great - well matched to the headphone build. Very nicely done! :)

My first build (a Symphones V8 build as well) used a set of cups from an early 90's Grado SR325 (brushed aluminum cups w/ stainless mesh grille) and polished Concord Custom gimbals & blocks. The finished headphone has a striking look much like your build, only with swapped metal finishes:

Aluminum & black gives Grado type headphones a classy look. :)

I just completed a build using a set of walnut cups that I purchased from Fleasbaby - he does beautiful work!

I got an email notification about the new V9 drivers. They look very interesting. I have a pair of fleasbaby cups looking for new drivers.

I assume they are a drop in for V8 s, etc. Anyone know that for sure?
.......just when I thought I was out......they suck me back in......:k701smile:

I'm waiting for the V100s.

Just kidding.

This is tempting me to upgrade my Magnums again.
