Ehh not OK with on ear as comfort is a concern with on ear. Any other suggestions? HD-598 possibly?

The HD 598 is open and over your budget.
 
If you can do with "just" neutral or slightly less than neutral bass, the KRK KNS 8400 is an excellent can.

Country,(pop), calm/acoustic music (to keep it simple =T.Swift) and a little bit of everything else...
(Semi)Open
large soundstage
Good instrument seperation
Clear vocals
Not portable
No amp (yet)

What would you suggest?

The Audio Technica ATH-AD700 at about $100 street.  The next step up will run about $175 to $180.

They seem to be exactly what I want, except that I could use a bit more bass than they seem to have, I also don't like the fact that someones call them tinny.... What about the sennheiser hd558?

At last check they are above your budget and are what (at least in part) I was referencing in the next step up.

Hello. I am posting here for a friend of mine. I thought I would start here since I am swamped with school work and can't look around very well for him at the moment.
 
Here is what he has told me -> "I listen to mostly alternative, hip hop, dubstep and techno crap. I love good sounding bass. I wouldn't mind in-ear headphones if they sound amazing but most in ears are uncomfortable as hell. So probably looking for over the ear for home. Spending limit is up to $200 as long as the quality is worth it."

I love the clearness and crispness of the sound of the Q701 but I can't tolerate the headband bumps. What are some headphones in the $200-350 price range which sound similar to the Q701 in terms of how crisp and clear it sounds, but not ones that sacrifice much bass? I hope I'm describing the sound adequately! When I compare the Q701 with something like the HD600/HD650, the latter sounds... veiled.

Hey I've been lurking for a while now and I've decided that I should take the plunge and see what I'm missing.
 
I'm currently looking for a pair of closed back headphones that will be used from my Ipod classic, phone and PC. The headphones that I have whittled my choices down to are:
 

• Shure SRH840 - £129 - Amazon UK -   $194.94 - Concerns about impedance considering I'm not using an amp

• V-Moda Crossfade LP2 - £156 - Amazon UK-   $235.75

• AKG K550 - £149 - Amazon UK -  $225.17

• Audio-Technica ATH M50 -£133 - Amazon UK - $200.99

 
I should note that I'll more than likely be purchasing these headphones from Amazon UK. Out of those three which are the best, I'm looking for a pair that have good noise isolation and sound quality. If there are other cans that are around £150 mark on Amazon UK that you think out perform the three I have listed let me know.

I have one of those for my Grados and I tried to fit it onto the Q701 but it's too small. It doesn't wrap around far enough to attach.
