I have a pair of dt880 250Ohms that I like quite a bit but unfortunately I believe I ever so slightly blew the right driver (long story) and instead of fixing it (for now) I'm looking to buy a new pair of cans.  I'm thinking of just getting DT880/600s however is there anything in the $600 and under range that is similar to the 880s but noticeably better?  I get a feeling there really isn't but figured I'd ask.

anyone? =)

Similar to DT880 but slightly less extension both ends, but much better mids = HD600.  You lose a tiny bit of detail but gain better balance and much better imagery IMO.

Still detailed with a nice soundstage - but just a really great tone.  I had both - DT880 250 ohm and the HD600.  Kept the HD600 - haven't regretted it.  Is more of a move sideways than upgrade (slightly different tone overall) - but the money you save could go towards a nice amp or amp/dac if you don't have one.

Armaegis, Sailormain. Thanks for helping. Just few more questions. I'm afraid there would be not enough base in ad700 to satisfy my ears. But from what I've heard, This set would be ideal for Dolby3D. From the other hand HD555 would be reat choice, just how will they perform in dolby3D? Does it mean good for gaming positioning=good in dolby3D ?

The HD5xx series will be good. Well balanced, relatively easy to drive, good staging.

How do the high end Beyer headphones compare with Sennheiser and Grado models?  I noticed they are closed.

DT770: bassy, high isolation
DT880: well balanced
DT990: strong bass and highs
Senn: generally well balanced, midbass emphasis
Grado: midtreble focus, does not isolate at all whatsoever

Can't make my decision between the Ultrasone Pro 900, Denon D2000, or Sony XB1000s...
I've read through tons and tons of threads but still can't seem to pull the trigger on one.

I want to purchase one by November along with the FiiO E7 and E9.

Anyone wanna try to convince me to which one to get?
I listen to a variety of music(except country), but 80% of my library consists of Hip Hop, Pop, Electronic music.
I listen to occasional alternative, indie, classical music.
I prefer closed headphones, and I love my bass.
Budget of the headphones ~$400.

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated.

Best isolation and punch would probably be the Ultrasone. Denon has the smoothest feel and great bass extension, but lousy isolation and not the greatest build quality. I haven't heard the XB1000 although I seem to recall reading some reviews that like the XB700 more.

If I had to pick, I'd go with the Pro900. Plenty of mod potential in the Ultrasones as well.

Does Koss have any headphones similar to Portapro isolate noise / does not leak noise (closed) ? Same size, collapsable, fit in pocket, etc. Around same price, under $50 USD?

Looking at their portables... http://koss.com/koss/kossweb.nsf/p?openform&pc^pt

... It doesn't look like it.

i'm going to get HD598 or Dt770 pro. for mainly HD movies. what should i get. i don't know what need for movies headphone? soundtage and bass or what ? . thank you very much :D

The Senn is the easy choice. The Beyer is just all bass and doesn't have a very good soundstage.

Hi I want to buy new headphones and I'm not sure which I should get. They must be closed because I don't want too much sound leaking. Active noise Cancellation is not important. I will mostly be using them with my ipod. Comfort is also important. I like a decent amount of bass. I listen to pretty much any genre. My price range is up to $250.
Also I would prefer circumaural and a detachable cable would be nice but no neccesary.

Senn HD380
Audio Techhnica Pro700mk2
Beyerdynamic DT770

Ok so ive been leaning more towards the D2000 now and away from grados. If you were to compare the D2000 to anything else for the same types of music what would you choose? About the same price point, doesn't matter if its open or closed, want it to be at least OK build quality and if possible come with a good cord (meaning to me bulky, good materials, good length) and maybe even a 1/4" to 1/8" adapter.

Competition to look at:
Senn HD600/650
Beyerdynamic DT880
Ultrasone HFi780

Hey guys..

I'm looking for a pair of headphones..
- Under $200
- Preferably something I can wear around
- Good with Rap/Hip Hop/Rock/Metal
- High quality + Don't break easily

Open to any recommendations. Don't mind if they are slightly used.

Senn HD25: easy to wear, highly durable, great sound, high isolation

Hi Head-Fi. Newb here. I've been lurking around for a few days now and I've got a question that fits this thread. I'm looking for Headphones. lol go figure. Here's what I'm really looking for in order of importance:

1. Something around $150
Absolutely nothing above $200 including tax, shipping to Ontario, Canada, etc.

2. Durable
I'll be wearing these a lot on the go so I need something that will withstand the weather and just everyday use. It gets pretty darn cold up here in Canada and I'm assuming it's a bad idea to wear headphones when it's snowing.

3. Closed
I plan to use these for both at home and on the bus/subway and nothing bothers me more than people with music leaking out. That, and hypocrites. So unless the open cans you recommend don't leak sound (how?) I prefer closed.

4. 65% music, 35% gaming
I listen to a bunch of stuff ranging from electronic (Shanghai Restoration Project / Jazzanova); to pop/hip-hop; to light rock (Coldplay). The rest of the time I'll be gaming at home. I have a pair of Senn HD515 G4ME and apparently they're unheard of. I have nothing to compare to so I'll leave it up to you to beat the 515's at gaming. My understanding is that a good soundstage is required for effective gaming.

5. Portable
Not a huge deal for me. I usually go out with some sort of bag. If worse comes to worst, I'll just wear them around my neck. But it'd be nice.

Misc.
- My music will be coming from my phone, Samsung Galaxy S Captivate
- I have a Fiio E5 ordered (but I got it from dealextream and I don't know if they're reliable)
- My computer sound card is the Auzentech Bravura and I've noticed after getting said card, my gear has become the new bottleneck
Being the newb that I am, I don't really know where to look. I'm much more familiar with computers and until I get to that sort of familiarity with headphones, I'd like to deploy the help of the wonderful people here at Head-Fi. I looked into some of the more famous cans and I definately know to stay away from marketing gimmicks (though I have owned a set of Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket IEM's in highschool and I remember they weren't that bad... given that I had to jam them into my ears for the sound I wanted lol).

The ATH-A700 don't seem to fit my need and have a reputation of being bass light (can this be solved by the E5?). The ATH-M50 seems to be too heavy on bass and has a terrible soundstage according to the gaming guide on this forum. ATH-AD700's are open. It seems everything in this price range is missing 1 thing. I want to start simple and see (hear) a slow progression as I gain knowledge about headphones and audio in general.

Senn HD280 or 380
Sony V6/7506
Shure 440

So comes this time of the year again, yes, the time the wallet fears. New headphones.
So far I've owned the
Audio Technica ATH-M50s
Alessandros MS-1i's
Shure SE215
Koss Porta Pro.

Each one of them has seen extensive use, but there comes a time when, well, you just want more and it has come.

Budget: Gonna say 350Euro is TOP. I have a basic amp that runs my Q Acoustics 2010s, so that will be the amping if required.

Style: This time, I want something portable, not tiny, but you know what I mean. No crazy cable length or anything. Must be closed. That covers that.

Music: It ranges, from "brostep" to metal, from rap to classical, from Screamo to Orchestral. See where I'm going with this?

I love the sounds of what I own, i just think I could get something clearer and better that what I already own.

So far people have suggested the

Senn HD25s
Beyer 770/880/990
Shure 940s

So lads, what ya's got for me?

Thanks in advance for every and any bit of advice in the right direction.

Mark.

Of those listed, I would only consider the HD25 portable, and debatably the 940.

Maybe consider one of these... http://www.head-fi.org/t/574617/review-comparison-beyerdynamic-dt1350-t50p-sennheiser-hd25-1-ii-hd25-13-ii-pioneer-hdj-2000-v-moda-m80-aiaiai-tma-1

Kind of a repost, with some modifications... looking for some nice durable headphones <$100 with not too much sound leakage, meant for home listening as well as outdoor+bus listening. Music: classical, pop, rock, j-pop, practically anything...

Anyone know how these compare?
-Sony MDRv6
-Audio Technica ATH-M30
-JVC HARX700
-Equation Audio RP21
-Panasonic RP-HTF600-S

Which are the best out of those?

Can you be more specific?

Are these for home or portable use? Do you have an amp? What kind of music do you listen to? Do you need isolation?

They would be for portable use as well, but when that happens they would probably just be on my neck. I don't have an amp, and if I do get one it's going to be a portable one. Probably a cheaper one at first like the fiio e6 or something. I listen to Rap, HipHop, Rock (Rise Against, Foo Fighters, Bad Religion, etc) Metal. Isolation is preferred, but not completely necessary

Hi there! Wanna seek advice here.

Had some time to try 3 headphones which was suggested (Beyers dt770, shure srh 940 and Senn hd598) The headphones i currently own (shure srh440) and now considering an upgrade.
From the 3 headphones i tried, I like the SRH940's comfort most but somehow the sound seems laid back to me (maybe it was not burnt in or need a portable amp?). The Beyers dt770 had too much bass for me (but dislike the circumaural cup shape and the vocal separation is not on par with SRH940, tried with music which has 3 vocals playing at the same time) and finally I found out I dislike open back headphones so Senn HD 598 is not for me.

Maybe I'm too used to the sound of Shure SRH440? The Shure SRH940 is no where near to SRH440's sound signature (need to audition it again next time.....). I listen to mostly J-pop and will use it to watch movies. Is there any headphones which has good female vocal (forward), comfort wise like the SRH940 (velour pads will do!), smaller bass than the DT770, better vocal and instrument separation. Somehow a better upgrade from SRH440 will do. Thanks!

Of the headphones listed, the M50 would be most suitable. The Beyers are really too bulky to be portable, and need an amp anyways. Same goes for the AKG actually.

Did you try the Shure 840? More bass than the 440, but not as much as the 770. Comfort will be similar to the 940, but it has pleather pads, although you can always order pads separately.

Thanks a bunch! I like the M50s a lot, but I dislike the fact that you can't remove the cord.

So far I think im just gonna stick with the D-2000s unless I come by something that seems better. Although I do still want to head out and listen to a bunch before I take the plunge, after that ill make my decision. Still open to other choices if anyone wants to tell me some. Always open to looking at them

If you get a chance, I would suggest you try out the Sennheiser HD598.  It is really a good all arounder.

Thank you very much for your recomendations! Can anyone else second any of these? Also, I can go a little more expensive than these (if like $30 makes a difference)
