After using IEMs for years, I've decided to try out a full-size headphone.
It will be used for both music (rock and its sub-genres mostly) and gaming.
Budget is 200$.
I'll also buy an amp soon, most likely a Fiio e07k Andes and use it as an external soundcard.
Are the DT860s a good choice? They are exactly 200$. I know the 880s are more popular/better but they cost 310$ here. And I can't spend more cause I have to buy the Fiio Can't afford monsters like the HD650s, haha.
Best 'phone I've heard so far is the Audeo PFE112 if that helps.
I might also use them with a Clip+, dunno if I want to take them outside yet.

Can't help with the DAC, as I don't need a stand alone DAC for my vinyl, CD's & SACD's.

Speaking as an owner of the ATH-W1000X and AH-D7000, as well as several great open headphones in the price range, I highly doubt you've given the W1000X a fair listen with a remark that flippant and nonspecific.

In any case, I completely disagree.

so I have two questions for help - 1. I'm a little bit scared how powerful or better to say overhelming the bass is because I do enjoy clarity, would like some nice soundstage and clear mids and highs not to be overshadowed by bass cuz bass is not the most important thing for me, overall sound quality is( although some bass impact is desireable).

2. some other headphones to check out because personally I get lost reading about all these headphones on internet , still new to this stuff

My guess is that you don't understand that the HD 518 is Senn's entry level product for their lowest level of entry line audiophile cans.  While they are dark--darker than the next up the line, HD 558, they are not bass heavy cans in any respect.
 
I suggest that you read some reviews about them, as well as their bigger brothers the HD 558 and HD 598.  You should be the gist of their sound signature and how the other two cans in this line differ.

Then to provide a counterpoint - I feel the W1000X is clearly superior to the DT 880/250, Q701 and HD 650. I find it competitive with the AH-D7000 (I do not have the D5000 or D2000 to compare) in terms of resolution and detail, trading sub-bass response for greater mid-bass and having a far less recessed midrange. The individual I sold my W1000X to alleged it was competitive with his Beyerdynamic T90.

I think the make-or-break factor for the W1000X is in its decay, and that's probably not going for you.

We know that Tyll's wall of fame is predicated on his perceptions of value and his own tastes (which tend away from energetic sound signatures like that espoused by the W1000X). This is why the D7000 did not make it on the value proposition, nevermind the W1000X being more expensive at the time of his review. In fact if you read Tyll's content instead of just the rating, he thought the W1000X and D5000 were comparable.

I find it laughable the Denons are still mentioned as closed recommendations when even my DT880s provide superior isolation.

New here, new to higher end audio in general. Apologies in advance for any rules and conventions I might break...

Looking for advice choosing between two options that would fit my budget.
1. Pricier cans (e.g., LCD2) with cheaper DAC and amp (e.g., Schitt Modi and Magni)
2. Less expensive cans (e.g., HE400) and more expensive DAC and amp (brand/model tbd)

I guess an option in between too, but not familiar with what items would fit the bill.

Potentially useful info:
- source always computer, unfortunately a lot of compressed stuff (320 Kbps mp3 and AAC); CDs; looking forward to FLAC-ing moving forward
- would probably be locked into what I buy for 1-2 years before adding anything new
- listen to many genres

tnx for the answer I do understand more or less and I'm  satisfied with most reviews people are putting here and somewhere else about this pair of headhpones. its just that some poeople said how the bass can be overhelming and thats the last thing I would want from my headphones...but i guess i wont know untill i buy them and they will probably be good cuz its a bigger step from my older headphones

Get the Alessandro MS-1i.
 
Failing that your are just likely to get more back and forth, much like the HD 600 vs. HD 650 discussions.  Put each on your own ears.

If it helps, I like them (but like the HD 558 & 598 more) and I do not like bass heavy cans.
