For classical, going only by their reputation and recommendations, the AKG.

But how can you be very close to deciding? For $25 more, you can get the AKG 701!

I don't know where your looking but for me i see AKG 701 at 276$ while AKG 601 are 199$

EDIT: Also i'm more towards the AD900 because i've read alot about them and they seem similar but little bit better than the akg
If the AKG K701 would be 225$, i would take them right away.

Then go for the Q701: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=745012&Q=&is=REG&A=details

Nice suggestion but it still go over my price. I live in Canada and there will be extra cost for shipping.

2 Days ago, i was giving me a price range of 150$ i extended it to 200$, i don't feel comfortable to keep doing that (I never heard an audiophile set of headphones). I will probably spend more on my next pair if i am blown away by my first one.

What i need right now is a confirmation that my choice to go with the AD900 is a good choice or if not, what would be better for under 200$

UPDATE: Ok... I've looked at them and they look very nice quality parts are replaceable etc. That made me rethink how much ill spend lol...
If i will get alot more quality (Audio/Durability) out of the AKG Q701, if there is a HUGE quality difference between this and the AD900, I might take the Q701 but i need to know if im doing a good thing (my first ever audiophile headphones.)

Thank you.

That was my mistake. It's the Q701 that can be had for ~US$225. Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you guys for the replies to my question. The Audio Technica ATH-AD700 seem to best fit my needs. I only have one more question: Are any amps ideal (or needed) for these headphones? Or can I plug them straight into my computer and be good to go?

I just updated my last post, what do you think?

Check this out: http://www.head-fi.org/t/630688/akg-q701-vs-ath-ad900-as-an-ad700-upgrade.

Search using google for head-fi ad900 and q701. Or try with the k701. I'm sure you'll find discussion that is better than what you will get from this thread.

I was really just playing devil's advocate when I suggested outspending your original budget. I apologize for the confusion.

The [KQ]70[12] require, compared to most other dynamic 'phones, a high current even with their low (62-Ohm nominal) impedance. You might benefit from an external amp. I don't know anything about the AD700 except what I've read here.

The AKG's have a relatively flat FR; I think this makes them quite a good choice for Classical music. Are they better than the K601 or the discontinued K501? Some owners say yes and some say no.

Help. I have my home setup all sorted. Beyer dt880 600 ohm plus littledot tube amp.
I need a good headphone for my iPhone 5 and iPad Mini. I currently have the EarPods, Bose AE2i and Sennheiser HD202 ii.
I bought yesterday the Amperior which sounded amazing. But today after just one hour my ears hurt so much I took them off and re boxed them to return back to Apple store. My music is at 320 bit. I listen to jazz, classical, blues , pop and rock mainly. I need a pair of headphones that will work without an amp properly like the Sennheiser Amperior.
Budget is up to £280.
Size of cans is irrelevant. Comfort is relevant.

I answered you on the other thread. Check those out and let me know what u think.

Thank to everyone who helped me,

I decided to buy the ATH-AD900 but i only need to find a good cheap amp for it (under 50$). I was about to take the Fiio E7 but Fiio product don't seem to ship to canada from amazon. Wich amp should i get and, if possible, is there a different website where i could get the e7 for a low price (i searched and found nothing.) ?

Thanks again.

what is the best DAC under US$275 for the sennheiser hd600? I was looking at the Cambridge Dacmagic which is selling in FS forum for $275. It´s a good deal for the HD600?
I was looking also to the Bifrost that is the same price point, How does the dacmagic compare to the Bifrost? any other DAC recommended for the hd600?

I keep changing my mind, but im very close to get exactly what i'm looking for.

Right now i'm having a battle:  ATH-AD900 vs AKG K601

- I listen to Classical, Rock, Movies
- Up to 200$ budget
- Want good sound stage
- Comfortable

What is best for me? (Could be something else than those 2 headphones.)

Thank you.

The ATH-AD900 is US$195, right now, through Beach Camera, at Amazon.

Thanks, very helpful, good to see i'm able to buy Fiio in Canada.

The only problem is that i wanted the E7 and it seems to be missing at that website. (Wanted because of the DAC feature and low price.)
I might just get another Fiio product, but i gotta make sure that i really can't get the E7 in Canada.

ill keep looking for now, let me know if any of you know a different website with good discount like amazon.

EDIT: Oh and by the way i'm not a pro at the audio, and i'm not sure if it really worth it to get the DAC feature would be great to know if its important for the best quality possible.

Hey everyone, I've been using the Sennheiser HD595s for the past two years and though I love them, I'm interested in getting a better pair. My price limit is $300 and I've been especially looking at the AKG K701s and AKG Q701s, but an Audio Technica or anything else you'd recommend would be good as well. I've got the Electric Avenues Pa2v2 amp and I'm not really interested in getting another amp, but I've heard that the AKGs I mentioned won't sound good unless I have a $100+ quality amp. Should I cross the AKGs off the list or would the Pa2v2 do them justice? Or is there a reasonably priced amp out there that would work well with the AKGs?

I essentially listen to everything from electronic to jazz to metal so it's safe to treat everything equally, though rock and jazz are probably slightly favored over electronic and classical (but not by much).

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
