I don't know what the Venn diagram for Spotify users and crossfeed lovers looks like, but if anyone is in the intersection then voting for this Spotify idea would be appreciated!- onocentaur

Buying CDs from amazon.co.jp -> UK
There's a CD I want that I can only find in one place - amazon.co.jp. I think they will ship to the UK for certain goods, but this particular CD is only available from the marketplace, and it won't let me select my UK shipping address. I've tried contacting the seller but I don't get a reply...- onocentaur

Rotary switch - make before break, or break before make?
I'm going to have a go at making my own Corda Cross-1. I don't know whether my rotary switches need to be break-before-make or make-before-break, or if it even matters! Can anyone help?- onocentaur

Anyone in the US making a digikey order in the not-to-distant future?
If so, can I ask a favour? I'd like to get a couple of ECQ-P(Z) caps - to make a Corda Crossfeed filter - but the delivery charge to the UK is silly; £12 on an order of less than £5. So if some kind US DIYer would add these caps to their order, and then bung them in a little padded envelope and...- onocentaur

another 'what GS-1000 amp?' thread
I'm selling my Apache, which is wonderful, but too big and too pricey to be sitting around for the amount I use it. So I need another amp for my beloved GS-1000, let's say a price limit of $800; needs to have very low bass but not necessarily great quantity, warm/lush mids, treble not to worried...- onocentaur

How many conductors in the Grado extension cable?
3 or 4? I know that all the headphone cables (bar SR60) use 4 conductors, but I don't know about the extension cable... If it's got 4 I'd like to re-terminate it to make a cheapo balanced extension for the rare occasions when I might need one. [UPDATE] Grado say: four conductors.- onocentaur

Beyer headband-like mods for the GS-1000?
I know it's been done with the Grado SR series, but the GS-1000 has that extra-wide band, will the Beyer headband (from Dt880 etc) fit round it?- onocentaur

GS-1000 + Corda Opera / Yamamoto HA-02 / what?
I'm getting a pair of Grado GS-1000s - again; I've owned them before (used with portable amps + iMod), absolutely loved them, but had to get rid of them because the open-ness was annoying the wife. I've currently got a Corda Opera and a Yamamoto HA-02 as headphone amps. Searching has yielded...- onocentaur

Best cheap-ish closed cans with soundstage?
My budget is £100 ($200) at most, although I'm happy to go second-hand (but not happy to wait five months for chosen can to turn up second hand...). All-rounder ideally, main strength would have to be soundstage. My research to date suggest that there are no good closed headphones at that price...- onocentaur

What closed cans have the best soundstage?
Not something that closed cans tend to excel with, I know, but it's one of the most important things to me in a pair of headphones. I really love the GS1000 soundstage, but need something closed; any suggestions?- onocentaur

amp for ATH-W5000 (UK)
I need a pair of closed phones and I think I've decided on the w5000s. It looks like they'll have as much 'airiness' as I can get out of a closed can. But I need an amp for it and I'd rather not import from the US so I was wondering which would be the best bet. Budget is £200-£300. I've thought...- onocentaur

iPod replacement battery warning
I got a new 950mah battery from eBay for Vinnie to put in my new 5.5g iMod. The seller had impeccable feedback, 100% on about 400 transactions. The battery, however, lasts 2.5 hours less than the stock battery on an iPod running identically. (the iMod doesn't use any additional power.) So: if...- onocentaur

big iMod vs stock iPod battery
I got my new iMod last week, and I've been burning the ALO cable in with it, swapping with my old iPod. When I bought my iMod I got Vinnie to install a new higher-capacity battery, 950mah. Now, max running time on my old iPod with stock battery has been about 10.5hrs, whereas my new iMod with...- onocentaur

Ipod, Rockbox, Replaygain pre-amp and Battery Life
I use my Rockbox on my iPod (+ amp via LOD) with ogg files, all replaygained. In Rockbox there's a pre-amp option with Replaygain; does having the pre-amp at -12db increase the iPods battery life? Obviously it will reduce the battery life of the amp as it has to do more amplifying, but my amp...- onocentaur

Best iPod battery replacement?
I'm going to get an 5g iMod in the near future I thought I would get Vinnie to fit an upgraded battery at the same time (I use Rockbox, and love it, but the battery life needs some work...) Now, the largest capacity battery I've seen so far is 950mAh from BatteryUpgrade.com. Does anyone know of...- onocentaur

RSA shipping to UK
I've ordered a Hornet from Ray. Just wondering if other UK Head-Fi RSA users can give me any info on how they received their amps? I've asked Ray how he sent it and whether there was a tracking number but haven't had a reply yet. Did it come in the normal mail or with a courier or what? And how...- onocentaur

Lossless volume normalizer
I've got an iPod with all my music stored as ALAC. I would like to have all the files play at the same volume but the iPod 'sound check' feature is poor. There is this program called mp3gain that does something clever to normalize volume levels in mp3 and AAC (seen in this post) - does anyone...- onocentaur

Hornet M / SR71 + K701
Just thinking about RSA amps, I'd like to hear one with my K701s at some point. I've read a fair bit about both the Hornet M and SR71, and I think that I'd slightly prefer the sound of the Hornet - slightly warmer and punchier in bass, but wondering whether the SR71 - with twice the batteries -...- onocentaur

inside K701

Pronouncing Dr. Xin
Once again I find myself unsure as to which forum to put this in. But as the man makes amplifiers, I opted for here. Quite a trivial question I suppose, but I'd like to know... So, is it:Zin Chin Shin Zhin (somewhere between a soft J and Sh) something else?- onocentaur

Xin SuperMacro & LE

Media player without hard drive and DAC
Does such a device exist? It would be cool if I could get something that would plug into my portable hard drive which could read the music files, then output to a (separate) DAC to amp then phones: The result would be a semi-portable set-up with high storage capacity and great sound- onocentaur

Amping the K701s
(Not really sure whether this should go here or in the amp forum, but I guess it'll be moved if I'm wrong...) Anyway, in an earlier thread about upgrade choices, I got a lot of positives for the K701s. However, it also seems that they need decent amplification to get to their best. I'm...- onocentaur
