Durable, Light-Weight, On-Ear Headphones for Work Environment
Interesting stuff! It looks like I've missed some stuff in my absence. The V-Jays and AIAIAI Tracks are both attractive options (although the latter is more than I would like to spend). It looks like the V-Jays are completely open, however. Can anyone give any more information in how much...- avocado

Durable, Light-Weight, On-Ear Headphones for Work Environment
My px100's have (finally) started to separate at the 1/8 jack, and the right ear channel is out. I haven't been paying attention to the headphone world for the last few years and would like some opinions before springing for a new pair. I've heard some good reviews about the px100-II, but...- avocado

Consumer IEM Brands vs Audiophile
That's what I'm trying to get at! There are all of these excellent companies that don't have recognition yet on Head-Fi are universally considered to produce great headphones! Head-Direct and NuForce have created some of the 'budget' staples for the community, yet would never appeal to the...- avocado

Consumer IEM Brands vs Audiophile
I've been in and out of the mid-fi world for the last year and a half or so and keep getting sucked back in! The wallet's mostly intact but its been hurting a little bit Anyway, I've been thinking a lot about the exclusivity (snobbishness?) of the audiophile world and have realized that...- avocado

Best neutral IEM for under $150
For $75 the Ety MC5 is pretty nice. Classic Ety sound (with a bit more bass), obviously excellent isolation, and various people around here have said it's as good as or better than the HF5. I'm a fan.- avocado

ESW9 just broke.....what can I do to fix it?!?!
So tragedy of tragedies, I was listening to some music when my roommate wanted to talk to me and, when I went to remove my headphones the right cup snapped off from the headband!! It's a mostly clean break, almost directly underneath where it says 'right', and everything still works (except for...- avocado

Official Audio-gd Sparrow thread
I have an aging Macbook (2006, first generation) that will hopefully be replaced by a newer Macbook in the next year or so. Most of what you just said flew a little bit over my head, which is worrisome...whatever happened to simple plug-and-play, haha.. I just don't to finally pick an amp...- avocado

Is there any real difference between the BNC and USB inputs (other than the obvious)? I'm new to the amping world and curious about the price difference between the two basic models. I'm assuming that to go from a laptop -> BNC requires some special cable that isn't readily available...- avocado

K701 - Amping for the common man
I have the exact same dilemma as you, in regards that I have a tight budget to get an amp for my K701s. From what I've seen, the Audio-GD Fun has just had a price drop to $190, and that the Audio-GD Sparrow ($125) is going to start shipping next week. I emailed the guy there, and he said that...- avocado

Review of the Audio-GD FUN - A modular Dac / Headphone amp / Preamp
This seems like a great deal!! Was considering going for the Sparrow, but this might have to be the choice.... Then again, the Sparrow is at the very top of my budget (not that this stops me - the 'budget' for my first headphone purchase was $40-50, ended up something $200...oops) Should I go...- avocado

Headphone Sightings 2
Keep seeing the same people on campus. Porta Pros, SR60 (or 80), some black Audio Technicas that I couldn't identify (recognized the logo on the side, though). There are a handful of people with Beats by Dr. Dre. Also a ton of Triports, Quiet Comfort 2 or 3s. I don't mind it, gives me an...- avocado

Exactly, that's what I figure. I already own the ESW9 and love it, the K701 is something a bit nicer to add to my (admittedly poor) lineup --> firm believer in different tools for different jobs. Since I'll probably be doing a lot of moving over the next year or so (different cities, different...- avocado

The website still says "coming soon." Any idea when they'll start shipping? I'm thinking about getting the Sparrow for my first amp, and the sooner the better- avocado

AKG 702 without an amp sounds great!
I've been listening to my 701s out of a Macbook for the past week as I wait to get an amp. They sound "good" - but nothing out of the ordinary. Like a less exciting, flatter copy of the ESW9 with a wider soundstage. I was auditioning the 701 amped and was literally grinning the entire time...- avocado

Received K701 as gift....amping issue
Well...my family had been using an old JVC R-S7 RMS for as long as I can remember, and only just got a new one over the winter. I asked about it at home and they just took it to someone to make sure everything was still working fine, and it looks like that it's as good as new, for the most part...- avocado

Wooh!! Arguments ftw!!! But seriously, I've been keeping my eye on the sales forum, and obv most of the things there exceed my budget. The two that are looking best right now are the Nie Mini Hi-Fi and Acoustic Alchemy (I can possibly stretch the budget for the latter). Any impressions on...- avocado

Thanks for the replies!! It's a relief to hear people say things other than "don't bother, just give it up until you can buy an $X00 amp." Also, I'm currently located in New York, just haven't updated my profile for a few months, heh.. So it sounds like the best course of action for the...- avocado

Received K701 as gift....amping issue
Out of the blue randomly yesterday my favorite uncle bought me 701s as an early graduation present, which I'm obv ecstatic about. However...I'm a current owner of sr80s, px100s, and the esw9 - aka things that work fine unamped. I know that this subject has been beaten to death on the forums...- avocado

The Etymotics HF5 Thread
I need to spend $100 on IEMs about as much as I need a hole in the head, but once you get something on the mind (for me it's isolating iems for the subway - hence the etys) it's hard to back off. Obviously every jump in sound quality is worth it monetarily, but how much difference is there...- avocado

For those who own MULTIPLE headphones - which do you use EVERY DAY?
At my desk I tend to switch between the SR80 and ESW9 depending on what kind of music I'm listening to and if the other pair has begun to irritate my ears at all. When talking on Skype it's the PX100s all the way, as they're both comfortable and allow me to hear myself when I talk...- avocado

If there's any chance for you to take them back I suggest you do it... And I'm kind of surprised that they're that bad, considering that Audio Technica is a reputable brand.- avocado
