Fiio E7 + E9 not working
Hey all, I just got a Fiio E9 to pair with the E7 I have had for about a year now. The E7 headphone jacks have been on the fritz and it never leaves the house so I figure the E9 would be a good addition. Unfortunately when the E7 is plugged into the E9 the combo is not recognized by...- Ace o' Spades

Can someone recommend me a good/cheap DAC?
Hey everyone, I'm looking to improve the audio out of my computer since the stock line out is absolute garbage. I have a fairly nice PIMETA amp, so all I am really looking for is a good, clean line out for my computer. My budget is around $50. Also, I was thinking of building a...- Ace o' Spades

First experience with "top tier" IEMs (Triple.Fi 10)
I got my first set of high-end IEMs in the mail this week and just thought I'd post a little review on my impressions. First off, I enjoy a pretty broad range of music including punk rock, reggae, ska, and more electronic stuff like Dubstep, Drum & Bass, and glitch. So whatever cans I ended up...- Ace o' Spades

Custom IEM Idea
I haven't posted here in over a year, I think, but I have acquired and interesting hobby that has given me some great ideas for homemade custom IEMs. I've been working with Alumilite plastic resin to make puzzles, like this one: YouTube - 3x3x4 Tiled But anyways, last weekend I got these...- Ace o' Spades

Just when I thought I escaped...
I haven't been here in quite a while, simply because I lost the "bug" after being satisfied with my 580s. So anyways, I was in Phoenix airport waiting for my flight, and I see this electronics store. I got to the headphones section expecting to see some crapass sony-jvc-bose garbage, but lo...- Ace o' Spades

Senns and Metal
Just out of curiosity, how many of you use Sennheisers for meal, hard rock, or punk? I do, I love my HD580s for metal, especially older recordings like "Ride the Lightning" and "We Sold Our Souls For Rock and Roll", but they especially shine with Guns n' Roses IMO. Also pretty good for punk...- Ace o' Spades

DIY balanced amps?
Is it possible to use a non-balanced amp design (PIMETA, CMOY, PPS, etc) and use two of them to make a balanced design? I guess a dual power supply would be required too... I want to experiment with balanced gear, probably starting with a KSC75 if I can build an amp for it. Thanks!- Ace o' Spades

Hammond screw question
I have a simple question. Will screwing and unscrewing the Hammond 1455 screws cause them to strip? If they do, what can I do to make them fit?- Ace o' Spades

TREAD is a thumbs up
I just finished up my PIMETA with TREAD recase and everything is working perfectly(!). The TREAD is my first venture into the DIY power supply club, and it was a great success. The extra power is also useful in case I want to upgrade to better opamps. The build was a snap, the only problem I ran...- Ace o' Spades

TREAD input voltages
I just got a 24VAC wall-wart from Radio Shack today, and I want to make sure that I got the right voltage for Tangent's kit. Mainly, the current is 1000mA, which seems like an awful lot. I just want to make sure that it is compatible with my PIMETA. Also, will standard 22 gauge solid core hook...- Ace o' Spades

Non hammond alumminum cases
Hey everyone, are there and good non-hammond extruded cases similar to the ones used for the Headroom Desktop line of amps? Preferrably one with enough room to fit a PIMETA, TREAD, and crossfeed. Thanks- Ace o' Spades

Case suggestions
I'm gonna recase my PIMETA to get it out of that hideous Serpac. I am thinking about getting a Hammond. Along with the recase I am adding a linkwitz crossfeed, TREAD, an input selector, and a full size plug. What size do people usually use for this kind of setup? A cigar box or a bamboo box...- Ace o' Spades

Hi-Fi on the cheap
Every time I read the phrase "Sorry about your wallet" I have to think, it doesn't have to be so bad. My rig right now (iPod video+modded iPod mini dock+PIMETA+HD580) sounds amazing and didn't cost all that much at all in comparison to some of the nicer rigs out there. And really, the difference...- Ace o' Spades

DIY Binaural help
Hey everyone, I have pretty much stopped using my SR-60s completely and I had a great idea. I plan to put a condenser microphone in each earcup to create binaural recordings. Blues Slide Guitar
I found a couple of amazing videos on YouTube of some blues slide guitar. I really love the tone and flowy style of it, and I was wondering, does anyone on here play slide guitar? I am gonna pick up a slide from guitar center (nothing to expensive, of course) to test on an old Squire bullet...- Ace o' Spades

About converting open Sennheisers to closed
Why would you want to do it? I have seen posts where people have essentially taken their HD series cans and made them closed cans, but why would you want to do it? I have heard what they sound with the grills covered up and IMO it is horrible! A ton of midgrange detail is lost and the soundstage...- Ace o' Spades

iPod dock line out
When I use the line out through my Universal iPod Dock, I can still adjust the volume through the click wheel. When I tried it on my friends stereo system, it was more like a "true" line out where the volume control is fixed. When connected to my via the line out PIMETA through a homemade...- Ace o' Spades

I've been converted...
I finally got to spend some quality time with my new HD580s today, with a multitude of genres from Rockabilly to Ska. All I can say is, man, these things rule. I formerly have loved Grados, their sound was really good for rock and acoustic. But the lack of bass and overemphisized highs really...- Ace o' Spades

iM716 pod contents
I was examining the pod that I removed from my iM716s last night, and I found something a bit interesting. It looks like there are 2 SMD capacitors on the board. I know that most people who have opened up their iM716s and done a podectomy just use descreet resistors to make a better sounding...- Ace o' Spades
