I haven't posted here in over a year, I think, but I have acquired and interesting hobby that has given me some great ideas for homemade custom IEMs. I've been working with Alumilite plastic resin to make puzzles, like this one:

But anyways, last weekend I got these custom earplugs for shooting made at a gun show, and it dawned on me that I could combine my old Head-fi hobby with my new molding and casting materials and try to make some custom IEMs with my iM716.
I would make a mold of the earplugs that I had made with a RTV silicone rubber, then fill the mold with the alumilite resin. Then I could machine a cavity in the new earpiece and put in the iM716 drivers, and put a plastic cap on top the whole assembly.
The only thing that has held me back so far is I am not sure that the hardened Alumilite resin is safe to put into my ears, just because I'm sure it contains all kinds of chemical nastyness.
