Monster "HDMI Difference" Scam?
Monster "HDMI Difference" scam still kickin' in Fry's Electronics Not sure if this is news to the community, but it's quite shocking to me that even the largest cable company couldn't resist testing the fine line between marketing and scam.- Dept_of_Alchemy

XLR Connectors - where to get them?
Hi all, I'm new to the DIY cables scene so please be nice. I'm interested in learning how to terminate headphones with balanced connectors (both 3-pin and 4-pin). HeadRoom Max DAC Measurements
I have heard a lot of good things about the HR Max DAC module and I have no reason to doubt that it sounds anything but fantastic, but as an electrical engineer by training I would love to see some graphs elucidating its performance. List of Little Dot Amps
Over the last three to four years Little Dot has produced many incredibly successful and popular series of headphone amps. With the introduction of the new Mk-series from Little Dot the nomenclature of LD amps has evolved to become so convoluted that even long time followers like myself are...- Dept_of_Alchemy

Little Dot II++ versus Mk series for newbies
Is there a concensus amongst Little Dot users as to whether or not the Mk series are a definite improvement over the II+/++? I've always been suspicious of the Mk series since a lot of resource and effort has obviously been put into making the case look fancier that I wonder if they're still as...- Dept_of_Alchemy

Mint LDII+ sold on ebay
I noticed that a NIB LDII+ sold on ebay for a little more than $150 just recently. Is this comparable with the going rate on head-fi? IIRC, it seems to me like most LDII+/++ amps sold in the FS forums here have upgraded tubes as well as for less than $150. Don't the early LDII+ amps ever go out...- Dept_of_Alchemy

LDII++ jumpers
I know you're supposed to remove the jumpers if you're using the amp with low-impedance headphones, but what exactly do they do? Is it just a gain switch or does it somehow manage some sort of impedance matching?- Dept_of_Alchemy

LDII++ still popular?
There hasn't been much talk about the LDII++ recently. Is this amp still THE entry level tube amp to get or has it fallen out of favor to other amps in its price range?- Dept_of_Alchemy

LDII+ capacitors
I dusted up my malfunctioning LDII+ last weekend to have a look inside with a multimeter, hoping to discover the reason why the left channel is dead and why it was arching before it was dead. I came away with more questions about the LDII+ design than ever before. First of all, when I...- Dept_of_Alchemy

Current used MS2i price
How much do a pair of used MS2i go for these days? Are they still going for ~30% off new retail (~$200) or had the market gone up since I last checked about two months ago? It's been a while since anyone's posted a FS thread.- Dept_of_Alchemy

Why portable amps?
Very often I see fellow head-fiers recommending portable amps like the Hornet or the Supermini to new members who're just looking for a home amp and don't need the portability. Why is this? There seems to be a belief that portable amps are somehow comparable to home amps in terms of SQ, which...- Dept_of_Alchemy

LDII+ Removing PCB
In order to remove the PCB from LDII+, one must desolder the two 7805transistors (they're located slightly behind the power tube sockets). Once you've desoldered the two parts, the board will come out (provided that you remove all four screws that's obviously holding down the PCB).- Dept_of_Alchemy

My Little Dot II + just died...
Bad news. So when I turned on my beloved LDII+ tonight, the left channel was dead. At first I thought it was the music that was mixed funny (listening to new music), but when I put on some familiar acapella quartet and only a duet came out, I realized that something was definitely wrong. I tried...- Dept_of_Alchemy
