Krell KPS-20i - Anyone have any experience?

This player is apparently 'legendary' but now about 8 years old. Does anyone still have one and how does it stack up to modern beasts?

Tube headphone amps with tube rectifier

The Twinhead uses tube rectifiaction. It's another headphone amp to your list but as zzz said, the circuits vary greatly and you can't really compare amps based on this one design feature.

Which would the CD3K's sound better with?

Firstly they do not sound 'horrible' out of Headroom gear. It is more a case of maybe they don't sound their best? Someone please correct me because I don't own the CD3Ks. When people say 'horrible' it's a relative horrible. Normally, horrible applies because it is relative to another amp. For...

    Da Bomb

Interconnect suggestions? Try go for Cardas or if you feel adventurous try DIY fro DIYHFS. For the power conditioning I suggest the international version of the PS Audio Plant.

Nik's New Angstrom Research Amp (warning: pics)

Nik, Congratulations on your great machine. You know you've finally found 'it' when you can sit down and enjoy the music and not think geese the bass on these headphones are lacking or I wish there was a little more treble extension... Nik we envy you!

For my *final* amp, how important is a stepped attenuator?

True, but it's easier to put together in kit form and looks reasonably good etc... If you're crazy I think there are also Silver Rock silver wire TVCs but the price on those is exciting to say the least.

There is also the DJANGO: http://www.diyhifisupply.com/diy_kits/django.htm

For my *final* amp, how important is a stepped attenuator?

If you're going to spend that much and don't mind stepped volume controls, why not get a Transformer Volume Control?

    PDA suggestions please!

FWIW, I personally hate PPCs, I don't know about you but they seem to end up being glorified gameboys or digicams because of the stylus based data entry which is atrocious for anything except a bit of quick PIM entry or a very brief reply to an email. Those thumb keyboards as far as I'm...

    ASLTwin Head Help.

Nightfall, Point taken though my experiences with ASL have been fine. My two MG Heads were in good condition so I guess it's a bit of a case of hit and miss. Having said that, if you purchase through someone like Upscale Audio and make an agreement that you can exchange on defective then...

Should high end PC's be plugged into the wall or a power conditioner?

Your PC's switchmode power supply inherently introduces quite a lot of noise into the PC already. Woops sorry I thought PC meant personal computer not power cord

    The Manley 300B problem

That's Eva Anne Manley though isn't it? Manley is just a last name... In Sydney, there is a suburb called Manly but I digress. Good work to both of you and Nik for solving the problem. It's great to see the industry addressing end user problems no matter how big or small. Now if only I could...

Chicago Meet April 26-27 Thanks and Impressions

Probably true. I think Jude got the CES unit so yours must be a different one! Quote: Originally posted by Kieran Comito Great Chatting with you too. I agree 100% the build quality on the Twin Head is not up to par. Pretty shotty actually. I appreciate your honesty. Fred thinks this...

Moretto (Radii) HAP-3 / EarMax Pro?

Moretto (Radii) HAP-3 / EarMax Pro?

This is a bit offtopic but doesn't: http://www.radaudio.com/hap05.html The HAP-05 bear an uncanny resemblance to the MG Head? Sure the tubes are a bit different [more like the EMP's tubes] but the design ideas of the two amps are similar? OTL/trans mode with except the power transformers...

What is the most expensive headphone amp you can buy in 2003?

In the hifi world price often has no real relation to sound. Prices are determined merely by what the market is willing to pay.

New ASL MG Head OTL MKII Confusion

Theoretically you can, but it's the same deal as running a splitter. You'll be sharing the power output between two jacks. If you give each jack a different load it might not perform too well either (but shouldn't damage the amp.)

New ASL MG Head OTL MKII Confusion

I think the switch governs both jacks so if you put the switch on OTL, both jacks will be in OTL mode and vice versa for Trans. The MG Head Mk II definitely won't drive K 1000s to a decent listening level with reasonable headroom. Lots of people in the forums have made 4 pin XLR --> 1/4 jack...

First Impression: Antique Sound Labs' Twin Head Mark II

As for the manuals, I don't think the amp is available to the public yet because I haven't heard of Divergent (the company who are to receive the first shipment) getting their amps yet. As such, the manuals aren't available. Normally Joe doesn't make the manual available online but puts the...
