This player is apparently 'legendary' but now about 8 years old. Does anyone still have one and how does it stack up to modern beasts?

The Twinhead uses tube rectifiaction. It's another headphone amp to your list but as zzz said, the circuits vary greatly and you can't really compare amps based on this one design feature.

True, but it's easier to put together in kit form and looks reasonably good etc... If you're crazy I think there are also Silver Rock silver wire TVCs but the price on those is exciting to say the least.

In the hifi world price often has no real relation to sound. Prices are determined merely by what the market is willing to pay.

Theoretically you can, but it's the same deal as running a splitter. You'll be sharing the power output between two jacks. If you give each jack a different load it might not perform too well either (but shouldn't damage the amp.)

I think the switch governs both jacks so if you put the switch on OTL, both jacks will be in OTL mode and vice versa for Trans. The MG Head Mk II definitely won't drive K 1000s to a decent listening level with reasonable headroom. Lots of people in the forums have made 4 pin XLR --> 1/4 jack...
