What do you think about the combination?

I'm not really experienced in HiFi but to my ears  , Asgard+ HFI2400 sound good. In comparision with my Fiio E17 ( I still use it as DAC) . Instruments and voices are better positionned in the soundtage and the overall sound seems denser, more controlled, more focused .  Nevertheless , I think Asgard would match better with a brighter headphone than HFI-2400. Listening is far less clean with Fiio E17 but a bit brighter I think.

I'm waiting Xmas to get an alternative ( dac/amp audio-gd nfb 12.1 or Fostex HP-A3 I think)  and I think I will sell both Schitt Asgard and Fiio E17. But I still can change my opinion and get a Bifrost dac to make a Schiit Combo before purchasing an Ultrasone pro 2900 next year ?  ... I hesitate

If anyone has a good advice or experience to report, I would be happy !

Headphones will make a larger impact on SQ than any upstream toys. The PRO2900 are a very good improvement over the HFI-2400 imo. The PRO2900 play nice with others IME, so I wouldn't worry about selling the farm to buy them - use what you have.

I hope to be rational enough in order to wait next year to upgrade. It's the only way to try pro2900 when I can find pro900 in test.

Moreover, The Pro 750 try afraid me a bit about pro2900 harshness .... I didn't notice that when I listened to pro900.

@Obobskivich: How does pro2900 sound vs pro900 and pro 750 ?

Indeed, when I compared My soudcard output vs E17 vs E17 DAC + Schiit ASGARD I found thinny but real differences ... so I can't stop myself to look for the best dac/amp  to enjoy my Music.  Yesterday evening, i unplugged the asgard to keep only E17 an I think I'm happier with the Fiio .. it's a matter of preference but how to know our preferences without testing ?

I haven't tried PRO900 or PRO750 - but I don't find the PRO2900 harsh. They are brighter and less forgiving than the HFI-2400 imo, but not "harsh."

And yes, there can be subtle differences, but if you want to see big improvements or changes, change the cans. GE explains it best here: http://en.goldenears.net/index.php?mid=KB_Columns&document_srl=1921

Oh I'm already convinced of this point.

Anynone compared pro750 and pro2900 would be very useful for my future choice.

Hi. Any suggestions about a dac amp for a pair of hfi-680?
I don't really want fiio products, nothing personal. I was thinking about the HRT headstreamer DAC/amp, or the JDS LABS O2 amp (without the dac for now). What do you think about those for Ultrasones?

Budget: $180+-
Music: Rock, classic, jazz, other
Source: Dell N5010 laptop and iPhone 4S
All my music is in flac, some of it in 24/96
I also have a pair of Grado SR225i

Hi everyone
My Ultrasones were my first "real" headphones.
I have the HFI-780 > E11 > iPod Classic 6th gen.
I listen to Trance and a bit of house.
I really do like my 780s, although i want to look into replacing the pads at some point in the future, any suggestions? I've never modded a pair of headphones before, so i dont want to have to make my own pads. I want either leather or velour, but I dont want it to change the way they sound too much.

The Pro900s are very sibilant - even running them through a warmer tube amp. The 2900s are still sibilant but less so than the 900. If anyone has sensitive ears / or sensitivity towards sibilance (treble harshness) I would recommend them to steer clear of the Pro900/2900s.

Again I would not call them harsh - they're forward, aggressive, and bright; but it isn't harsh or clashy. They're very unforgiving of bad material too - so if you have a sibilant or harsh recording, they will bring that out in spades. But they don't add - if your material isn't nasty, they don't make it nasty. Highly over-compressed and artefacted music is a bad match with the PRO2900, but I assume that to be a standard assumption with any hi-fi cans.

Sibilance and harshness is also not the same thing.

Hi

I'm still deciding on a new purache between either the HFI 580, 680 or 780.

I listen to EDM (tech house / deep house) and i'll probably be pairing it with the Fiio E11.
People recommend me to buy a 780, the problem is that the price doesn't leave room to buy the E11.
So i'm still doubting between a 680 combined with the E11 or a 780 without amp or just a 580 with amp or none (it would save me alot of money)

I might buy an E11 combined with the 780 ONLY if its really worth it.

Which of the 3 headphones do you guys recommend in terms of quality when it comes down to EDM.
I also want good clarity. I will be using this headphone for edm production so I don't want the bass to stand out to much and leave room for the mids and highs.

Thanks in advance!

What is your budget? Someone is selling their HFI780 on the FS section for $140

Hi, my budget is €200.
It looks like a nice deal but I'm from Belgium so its a little inconvenient to ship it from US.

There's only one store that sells ultrasone products:
780 is priced €199
680 is priced €159
580 is priced €139
The fiio e11 is priced €60

If it is €199, I would certainly get a shipping quote from the dude selling his. Shipping from US to AUS is merely about $35, and I would guess it would cost the same if not less to EU.

It would save me money ofcourse, but he might not want to sell it to people outside of the us. Could you link me towards the thread you mentioned?
Thanks.
