okay cool. Thanks a lot! I remember my hfi 2400 needed an amp because the volume was extremely low. Will the pro 900 run into this problem?

The PRO900 is lower Z, but I think it's also lower sensitivity (they're 40 or 45ohms nominal and 96 dB/mW - like the PRO2900; the 2400 is like 70 ohms nominal but iirc they're like 100 dB/mW). So it's hard to say. Best advice would be to try it, and if it fails to get loud enough, then evaluate an amp.

okay, but the hfi 2400 actually have 94 dB/mW. Now how can I try it in montreal. There are close to no good audio shops here! lol

pro 900 is hard to amp. yes , my essence st cant drive my pro 900.

But will they sound good out of an mp3 player or computer? If not I will look at a different headphone. I have 580, and love them to death, but want an upgrade, and want to stick to ultrasone. the pro 900 with an amp is really expensive. Any good upgrades from ultrasone without the need of an amp?

fwir, the ed8 is designed to be portable and doesn't require an amp to sound good, just suggesting

I don't think you'll find any "upgrades" in the middle from the 580's... The next logical stop on the line is the Pro900 if you want to stay with Ultrasone. A FiiO E11 should drive those very well and it's very low cost. I have it for my 780's and it has more power than they need.

Or wait for the Signature Pro DJ's but they will probably be quite expensive.

i jus want to say, no, because before i had my new amp, they sound good both on my st and my mp3 player( soso). now when i listen to my amp and i go back to my mp3, ... this is **** for my ears. , my essence st is not bad, but not good for drive my pro's 900, i think a real full size desktop amp for 250$ or 300$ is far better . but i never try another amp under 550$(exept the essence amp).. so , i cant really help you on that.

Funny. Essence ST not good to drive the pro900s? Not true! Before I had the Essence ST, now I got the Asgard + Bifrost and I have to say the improvement over the Essence ST is just minimal!
So the 900s will go fine with the Essence ST, however the damping Ohm thing is not what it should be (I dont understand these terms, so cant say anything about it).

PS: my source is always 320kbps/44.1kHz so this might have something to do with it!
