So would coupling the DJ1 Pro with the Fiio E7 amp bring back some of that bass that I'm missing? I enjoy the balanced sound and comfort the DJ1 Pro delivers but I need my bass to sound a wee bit stronger than a snare.

If the E7 is anything like the E11, yes. Putting the bass eq to max with the E11 and the DJ1 Pros makes me physically uncomfortable at times, so I just keep it on the medium setting.

Ok makes sense. I should've dug deeper into these forums before "upgrading" from the HFI-550s to the DJ1 PROs. That said, I ordered the Fiio E11 to give these new cans a chance. Should arrive within the week, at which I'll render my final verdict.

Again, the soundstage is well-defined, with the mids and highs out in front compared to the HFI-550s...just want at least some of the bass I lost with this upgrade.

Thanks to all for the guidance!

Hi I am very happy with my PRO 550 headset. I find the bass response is one of the benefits of these. But if you come from a bass heavy can then you need to get used to a more neutral, but also more precise bass. Give these cans some more head time and you will soon find them more and more satisfying.

Yeah they are great 'phones but it sounds like you got a "side-grade" instead of an upgrade this time around.

Hey guys I need an upgrade of my DJ1 Pros because they are quite uncomfortable for me. I'm think of getting a HFI-2400 recabled with silver dragon cable, Pro 900 and Pro 2900.
HFI-2400 recabled = $350, Pro 900 is around $300 and 2900 = $310. I can actually get the stock hfi 2400 for $200.

When you say the DJ1 pro are uncomfortable for you, what exactly causes your discomfort? I ask this because I have the PRO 550 and I had the HFI 2400. Both cans share exactly the same housing with your cans, but HFI 2400, PRO 900 and PRO 2900 have different drivers and different (velour instead of pleather) ear pads. I find the pleather pads much more comfy than the HFI 2400's velour, but a friend of mine loves the velour much more than the pleather....... He got the PRO 900 first but found the treble too harsh and the bass to "mumphy" so he sent them back and took the PRO 2900. He prefers them over the PRO 900 in any aspect and is very happy now. I found the treble of the HFI also a little piercing with certain records, so I sold them and kept the PRO 550 because of the more balanced sound and the for me better comfort from the pleather pads.

The price on those Pro 2900 is great, since most places charge a rather significant premium on the Pro 2900 over the Pro 900.

I find the Pro 900 quite confortable, the velour pads really do it for me.

Are you looking for a particular sound signature?

My discomfort about the DJ1 Pro is the upper pad that actually make my head feel a bit heavy.

I'm not sure how the size/width of the DJ1 Pro headband compares to the pro900 or hfi-780, but putting an hd650 pad on my hfi-780 did wonders for comfort. The stock headband pad for my hfi-780 often put so much pressure on the top of my head that it felt like a wooden pole was just being pushed down into my skull. The hd650 pad is much more comfortable and looks great and almost stock on my 780. Another poster, Sorensiim, introduced this mod to the community not too long ago. I can personally vouch for the incredible difference in comfort with the new pads.

All Ultrasones you mentioned have exactly the same headband, only the cushion is either covered with velour or pleather.I btw do not feel the headband at all.

I don't actually care much about comfort, I'm focusing on the sound and price of the headphones I have listed above and don't mind about the recable 2400 anyway but I'm still considering the stock 2400 to be on the list.

Count me as a member of the Ultrasone club. Just got my HFI-780 and hit the 150 hour burn in mark...

Simply amazing audio from such a great deal. Amazon had them for $141 ..easily the best value in that range in my opinion (I've heard the M50's ..).

Proud member. My next headphones will also be Ultrasone's I really enjoy there sound signature overall. Its a nice change of pace from Sennheiser.

I never really got the whole headband weight at all. For me it just rests peacefully, almost as if it's not there.

About Ultrasone sound signature being more portable, if the HFI series is still too big, then perhaps trying out the Zino could work out.
