Hi, can anyone let me know if its worth the price upgrading from a Ultrasone DJ1 to the hfi 780? or is the upgrade not that much?

If the DJ1 sound exactly like the HFi580 (i don't know the DJ1), the HFi780 is an improvement, but not huge. They sound similar in their aggressive/forward sound, but the HFi780 is more balanced, detailled and refined. The HFi780 has also slightly more soundstage imo and less punchy bass. Technically speaking its a better headphone but if you have already the HFi580 maybe you ll not find the HFi780 indispensable.

Personally, i find them complementary, but if for you 150-200$ is very expensive, don't buy the HFi780.

According to Ultrasone the DJ1 is sonically identical to the HFI-580, just a few dB louder, different cord and cosmetic appearance.  And the 780 would just be a side-grade from the 580.  The whole series, including the 680, is just a different variation of a similar sound, not a linear upgrade at all.

I m not agree with you. HFi580/DJ1 have the standard 50mm mylar driver where the HFi680/780 have the 40mm gold plated driver. HFi680/780 are a side grade, the HFi580 is a step down.

The DJ1's are exactly the same as the hfi 580, just a different look and a corded cable.

So what would you guys suggest a upgrade to be?

Also I don't have any amps so what portable amp do you suggest for my DJ1's? I was thinking the Fiio e11 but the Electric Avenues PA2V2 looks good to. dont wanna spend more than $85

Also im using a ipod touch 1g and getting a 4g soon

i have a detachable pro 900 aftermarket cable.  What other ultrasone headphones will this plug into?

Which cable do you have?  I'm interested in getting a spare 1/4" cable (like the coiled cable that came with 900's), but don't care to spend hundreds of bucks (ie: moon audio).  Any good affordable cables that will work with the Pro900's??

i got the silver dragon   $250.    The blue dragon is $150 i think.   I really don't know if it is right for you or not.  Some people think cables don't do anything and it is mumbo jumbo.  It is a lot of money for a cable.  I really do like my cable, it smoothed out the spectrum for me. (for me)  It put the icing on the cake that i love about the pro 900.  It toned down that harshness/sibilance of the highs, without getting rid of that awesome detailed bass.  If pro 900 is your favorite headphone, i suggest it as an add-on.  If it is a secondary headphone for you, you could do without it.

Thanks for your honest opinion . . I'll definitely give it some more thought.

apparently the blue dragons don't tame the highs, (this is just through discussion, nothing more), but they make the bass more present. (silver dragons doing opposite).  But then again you might not hear anything.
