Ultrasone Fan Club! (Roll Call)

I re-joined the Ultrasone club. I used to own the Edition 9 when they came out but sold them due to comfort issues (loved the sound) after some years with them but I was Ultrasone-less for at least 5 years until now that I bought the Edition 8 EX which I am loving. They have similar sound to the Edition 9 but with much better comfort.
by the way the LEMO connectors they use now are great. The model is FGG.00.302.CLAD35

For my portable duty (cutting the grass, workouts) my Ultrasone 840 (fitted with Mr Speakers Alpha pads) still get a ton of use...........love them. Loved the Edition 8 but prefer the 840............

I still love my ED8 for portable use and now paired with the ifi iDSD BL, the 3D switch make them even better. It gives it a more open sound without sounding artificial. It's an amazing portable/transportable DAC/Amp.

What do you like more about the 840?

On my Edition 8 the bass wasn't quite as prominent as I like it and the 840 has it in spades. That said, I've had guys tell me their Ed 8 was plenty bassy so it may be unit variance or differing points of reference. Plus the Ed 8 ear pad opening was just barely enough to fit my ears into - while the 840 stock pads suck IMO, with Alpha pads the headphone is comfy.

Okay first I should say that I am ultimately a Sony fan (some might find it funny that i'm posting in this thread, given my username). It's not just their audio products but their TV's and games consoles and their philosophy.

Ultrasone are one of the best headphone companies, in my opinion. What they do is genius and unique. They where one of the first (if not the first) companies to make headphones with angled drivers, producing a more 3 dimensional speaker-like soundstage. Now most headphone companies do this. This 3d speaker-like sound is what I loved most about the Ultrasone's i've owned. I'm on to my third Ultrasone's now with the Ultrasone Edition M. In the past I owned the Pro900 and HFI780. My favourite is without a doubt the Edition M. I won't be giving away/selling these any time soon! The Edition M is the second most expensive headphone i've ever bought, beaten only by my first Denon AH-D5000’s that I paid $650 for back in 2008. The Denons where worth every penny/cent and I think the same about the Edition M. I consider the Edition M one of the top 5 best headphones i've ever heard (out of about 60 i’ve heard/owned in total). The sound signature reminds me of Sennheiser HD700's except with smaller soundstage due to being closed-back. The Edition M works very well with my Sony system but I mostly use it with my iphone X when travelling, i'm thinking of getting a Cyrus Soundkey to pair with it.

My Edition M has a low serial number (692). I think only a few thousand are made.

I was very close to picking up the Edition 8 EX but for some reason, it sounded nothing like an improved version of my Edition 8 Limited. The EX had a very hollow, echo-like sound to it. The bass was even less than on my Limited. I don't know if it was just a faulty unit but it just didn't sound right to me. Has anyone else given the EX a try?

I have owned the Edition 9, Edition 10 (twice) and own the Edition 8EX and Edition 15. I have listened to the Edition 8 (different versions) and Edition 25 Jubilee.

I loved the sound of the Edition 9 but unfortunately they were not very comfortable and could not use them for extended periods of time. I loved the looks and comfort of the Edition 10 but hated the sounds. I really tried to like them (even recabled) but just couldn’t. Love the looks and sound of the Edition 25 but didn’t like the price.

IMO the Edition 8EX are more comfortable (they are slightly bigger) than the other versions and the sound is more balanced. If you are a basshead then you would like the other versions better but the 8EX does not lack bass or sound hollow to me. Actually they are very good all rounder. I am selling mine together with other things (will sell my Milo Reference and Qutest) fund another project. If you are interested in a mint pair of 8EX at half price look at the For Sale forum.

Hello, newbie here. After listening to a pair of Edition 8s in Harrods a few years ago, and it being the audio nirvana I'd always dreamed of (over the other cans available for auditioning like the Senn 800S and some £2k Sonys), I finally got around to grabbing a pair of these Ultrasones. But I'm curious. For anyone who has tried both the Edition M and the Edition 8 - how different are they?

Hello guys, I am thinking of getting a Pro 2900 one to finally end it all. It's going cheap now, so is it a recommended buy? It's going to be my 5th and final (hopefully) headphones. any thoughts?
