After ed8ex T7 J25, no more Ultrasone. Edition 15 or ed15, it's ed10 remake by another guy. Not same guy, so lose more Ultrasone soul. Remake doesn't mean upgrade, that let me down. In fact, ed15 is pretty different between ed10. Remake but fake.

You mention the documentation from them on the sound signature of their headphones. It's hard, because business need profit.
Most of them encourage you try more and try to buy more. Because it's hard to find a guy who have all of them which can find out sound difference and sound signature easier.
What do you mean when you say "Edition 15 or ed15"? I know the Edition 15 is available in closed and open back form. Do you mean the Edition 15 open back is the remake of the Edition 10? If so, thats such a shame. Like I mentioned before. Bloated bass, bloated mids, grainy treble and unnatural overall.
Regardless.. a company is its employees. Once they leave, its no longer the same. Such a huge shame for this to happen.
Once again, I hope ultrasone turns around and doesn't just chase the novelty of audio trends in asia.

Yeah both of them, edition 15 closed and edition 15 open back form. Thats why i still have edition 10, but not edition 15. Ultrasone start to make market headphone. May be profit is important than everything. Many of user give edition 15 positive feedback, many of them like that sound. But i will never pay for edition 15, because i got edition 10 for few years. New Ultrasone edition 15 is disaster. I do have a cup of tea with my friend. When we talk about some disaster headphones, we will use word BALANCE to describe the sound instead of other words which may countain negative feeling. Sometime we try something new and say, wow thats pretty balance then we sell it.
I think this is also because the harman curve is becoming more popular as a frequency reference. Today, most headphones sounds the same as you said “balance”. Some headphone companies that sound further away from harman considered as bad by the communities, while they lost their own identity to be accepted by the markets.
I actually prefer a more unique sound than something that always sounds the same. The Ultrasone has that and yes sometimes i miss that ultra revealing ultrasone sound.

There seems to be a very subtle noise i have just noticed when plugging into any source. bluetooth dac, wired dac, pc or phone. different ports. same hissing. volume doesnt effect it. but the hissing can vary in noise on its own. very subtle but noticeable on silence. Is this a cable thing? Im very concerned now.
As far as I know, high-end ultrasone is more sensitive to such background noise. Which is actually a positive for me, because the headphones aren't trying to hide anything from you.

The harman curve and its consequences have been a disaster for headphones.

The harman curve become HiFi's Disney.

.I'll definitely be waiting for your impressions.. hopefully you can compare it with your other collections as well, as there are very few impressions about ultrasone especially the higher ends.

Im very interested to know about this. I find they look outstanding and curious as to how they compare to older and newer open backed ultrasones.
Imagine if the new ultrasone lineup this year includes an ultrasone edition 11 ex version. :gs1000smile:
im kind of surprised ultrasone never went with the bio-cellulose drivers afterwards. bio-cellulose have a good reputation.

Yes, edition11 is special. But the best bio-cellulose drivers control by Fostex which is a japan company. They have Th900Mk2 as bio-cellulose drivers flagship headphone. I have them and Ultrasone don't use bio-cellulose drivers after edition11 i believe that because bio-cellulose drivers can not achieve the Ultrasone's goal. By the way bio-cellulose drivers could degradation by time by time so bio-cellulose drivers better not design by open form. That will case degradation faster, the famous bio-cellulose drivers use in Sony Mdr-R10 but that was pass, I have two completely sony's speaker system. The Mdr-R10 just a small piece of component, well thats so far. So due to the degradation feature, bio-cellulose drivers always design as close form not open form.

So, if u really enjoy the sounds of bio-cellulose driver. I believe try Fostex Th900Mk2 is good choice, they are cheap but good, i'm not sure theres chance for free to try or not. Because dealer told me Th900Mk2 no more production. Maybe thats just a symbol for bio-cellulose drivers start to step down from the stage of history. I remember Grado Hp100Se also use it. In my mind, Grado Hp100Se sounds like Ultrasone more than Ultrasone. Because my friend told me in UK it's hard to find them so i'm not sure about that but i hope you can find them.

Due to Grado Hp100Se could be Ultrasone but more than Ultrasone, i believe Ultrasone's goal or first mission have to be drivers durability. This is what bio-cellulose drivers lack with.

By the way, while i'm purchasing Ultrasone open founders series dealer sent me mail say do i need the close one or not. If i need they like to sent close and open together.
So i'm pay the open and get free time of probation with close. That i can prepare for compare with my other headphones, well let's see hows it work.

Do you live in Germany? From your comments it seems that you know a lot about ultrasone and knows them personally.

Informative post, i will say im not very interested in closed backs without angled dynamic drivers. I remember trying a denon closed back and being unimpressed with how stuffy and boring it sounded. And funny enough i wasnt impressed with open backs until i tried the grado sr60x with g pads. Comfort, however, was bad past one hour.

Once you are done evaluating the open and presumably open back? Perhaps make a forum post for them so its easier to lookup for prospective buyers.

EDIT: i also have a question. I looked under the earpad and theres 4 baffle holes. 3 of each taped shut. What would removing them do to the tuning?

The baffle holes actually have something to do with the sound. All ultrasone have them, and I've experimented with the holes before with some lower-end ultrasone, but if you like the sound, leave it as is, because if you break it, it cannot be repaired..
