What are the major differences (in detail) betwen the HFI-580s and the PRO-550s?

Which has better and more bass?

No love for 2400?

Bassiest open-back I've tried so far, and the bass notes come out like boulders with a midrange that has good clarity and non-fatiguing yet fully extended treble.  Build quality is quite good, too.  It's a lot of fun like Grados, but not as energetic and tipped towards bass instead of treble like a set of Grados.

I've never auditioned the 2400s but they are nice looking headphones.  From your description, they sound a lot like the 750s (or most Ultrasone Pro-series cans for that matter).  I wonder, what would be the advantage of the 2400 over the 650/750/900?  Is there a different perceived soundstage, like listening to an HD600/650?

2400's soundstage is certainly not like HD6x0, that's for sure.

I'm more curious as to how it compares to Pro2900.

H
Hi guys I am absolutely new and had to say 'Hi'! Thanks to this forum and lots of research for the best closed back headphones, I purchased a pair of Edition 8 phones a few weeks ago. My wife can't hear them, the resolution is amazing and base wonderful. Used with an iPhone 4 they make the iPhone sound comparable to my main system - Naim CDX2 Nuvista Ms and B&W 9NT speakers. To do this to my phone is amazing. Thanks to everyone, money well spent. Now I have to hear these with a Fostex HP1!!!!!

I'm thinking thats bad

What were you expecting?  It's an open-back headphone, it's going to leak a lot depending on how loud you turn up the music.

Hello all I hope this would be a good thread to try and decide which type of ultrasone to purchase I have mainly been looking at the pro900 and hfi780 (possibly with ALO mod). I had a few questions about these models in that I would mainly be using these for portable use at an arcade. Games I would usually play have a wide assortment of music but mainly electronic or female vocal songs. I have already tried the hfi 550s and I liked the sound signature but I would like better SQ but still want the music to still have that "fun" factor to it.

Some background on what I mainly use right now is my AD-2000s with a LD 1+ amp. Also are there any reliable sources to get velour pads for the hfi780?SUBMIT

I have the PRO550, its definitely not very bassy. Don't think a lot of people have heard both. Although HFI 580 seems more bassy from the reviews. The PRO550 is also said to have a bigger soundstage.

Well what is it like?  Instead of a quick uninformative response, how about providing some constructive feedback about its sound quality/soundstage?

HFI2400's soundstage is more colored and has around-your-head soundstaging if you position it right for you.  Copious width, plenty of depth, and very, very airy.  Layering is quite good as well, though falls a bit short of my other headphones like HD25-1,  K701 (no surprise there), or SR325is.  HD600, which I've spent the most time with as far as Sennheisers, has a less colored soundstage and is a little more precise.  HFI 2400 seems to not be as sensitive to the quality of your source in order to give you a 3D soundstage, but HD6x0 is.  This goes to show how good the S-Logic gimmick appears to be, I think, but layering could use improvement although I think it is decent.  I wonder if that does improve with the "S-Logic Plus".

Ultrasone Pro 900.

Thunderous bass, great holographic soundstage, solid mids/highs, incredible detail retrieval, and some of the fastest transients I've ever heard.  Possibly the perfect EDM headphone.

I am auditioning another headphone soon, side by side with the Pro 900, a can that I haven't heard in a long time, and it'll be interesting to see how they compare.
