The Fiio X5 Thread
Apr 11, 2014 at 8:50 AM Post #6,781 of 19,652
Finally got my X5! I love it.

Does the silicone case smell remind anyone else of the orthodontist? I have flashbacks of that goopy crap they put in your mouth to make retainers! Hoooo boy.

Also mine didn't come with a 3.5mm to 3.5mm IC cable - were they supposed to? I think I have some at home, so no biggie.

I'm gonna have to do some reading, I've missed a lot of pages here, I've been incredibly busy and haven't had a chance to really keep an eye on this forum.

Is there any new important info I should know after getting my X5? I still need to look into updating the firmware - does it not have the latest version installed?

Anyway I'm really happy with the device so far.. I was surprised at how sturdy the wheel was - you all made it seem like it was a piece of tissue paper pinned down with a thumb tack!

I wrote to MP4nation asking for news about my really early (March 22)batch 2 pré order. Here is the answer I got :

<snip>

I pre-ordered in February with an initial ship date of the 4 April. Then it got delayed to the 11th April (today) and it's now the afternoon here in the UK and so far, nada!

Also, just checked their x5 product page and it's now not even got an expected stock arrival date anymore...

Thank you for contacting us. I am sorry for any inconvenience cause.

The stock for the FiiO X5 player is expected to arrive by mid-late next week which will cover your order as well. Once the new stock arrives, we will have your order mailed out to your address and will notify you.

I apologies for the delay and for any inconvenience cause. Let us know if you have more questions.

Thank you
Vijay.

With best regards,
General Support

I am not intending to gang up on MP4 Nation here, only share my experience exactly as it has been. It's just my experience, so take it as that.  As I've stated, I preordered in the first batch on March 20th.

I have been given 4 dates or time frames by MP4Nation, all of which have been missed. I *absolutely* understand that there is immense demand and FiiO cannot fulfill all the orders to all the retailers. However, this isn't an excuse to make up dates - I don't expect them to be magicians, just to be honest. Given the X5 had been in stock at several US retailers, I finally emailed MP4Nation to cancel my preorder. It wasn't a threat to get attention or get them to magically have one to deliver me, I simply explained they are in stock elsewhere and I'd like to cancel. They wrote back that they could indeed cancel, but if I chose to keep my order they ASSURED me it would ship by today as stock was definitely arriving Thursday or Friday at the latest and they would ship immediately. Well, it is well past business hours Friday night in Hong Kong - it didn't ship.

So, I will be attempting to fully cancel my preorder today. Even if they get them soon, I'll feel better waiting for a US retailer to have them in stock again (I've missed out on 5...) and purchasing from them.

Sorry if people think this is overreacting or whining - again, realize this is just my experience and I'm not trying to present it as anything else.

Nice running into you as well

.

I am excited to hear the X5 with the ASG2.5, T-PEOS H-200, RE-400, and Sennheiser HD600.

This will be my first experience with MP4Nation and the FiiO lineup.  MP4N is probably a good company but it's tough reading about the praises of the X5 and then reading about people getting the X5 with later orders from US companies.  It was gamble on my part.  X5 will be worth the wait.

Yeah, I was going to order from MP4Nation too, but someone on this thread gave me heads up about Head-Direct. I think they sold out of their stock in 24 hours. I think I got really lucky.
Good to run into you again on a thread.

Thats a fairly big problem for me also as I have hundreds of sacd albums ripped to  24/88/176 flac  .It would be nice to know if fiio are looking into this and if they intend to support 24/88/176 flac.

James,

Can you advise if this issue with 24/88 FLAC files is being worked on? This is a fairly huge bug, as these files worked fine with the X3, DX50, and HM-901. It only appears that this bug is affecting the headphone jack, as the line out doesn't seem to exhibit this.

Thanks,

Am I able to regress my X5 to the stable v1.20 fw release, or will that kill it? Currently running 1.22 beta.

Yes you may freely choose any firmware version to "upgrade" to. What is the issue you're having with 1.22beta? (you could pm me or James.)

Yes you can. I already did it. On the 1.22 beta i had to reset it every ~30 min, so I rolled back to 1.20. Although i have to mention that 1.22 beta is much faster than 1.20! So I will patiently wait until they release the final 1.22.

Oh yeah, and another thing.  This was at 32 Ohms.  THD could differ at different loads, so don't hold your breath.

Edit:  Fiio has 16 ohms 460mW with <1% THD, so I'm guessing the 28mW@300 ohms is also <1% THD?

Sure, the output power should be more serious called as the maximum undistorted power. usually the distortion must less than 1%, and the test signal is 1Khz sine wave.

seems already fixed in 1.23beta version. please wait couple days till we release the new firmware which should be 2.0 because it is a big step over 1.2.

Yeah, my retailer said a few days ago that there was no reason for mine not to be shipped today but obviously that didn't materialise either. I also had an opportunity yesterday to order from another retailer who actually had stock and saw that dwindle from 5 yesterday to 0 today.

Similar experience here, but I notice on the product page that availability is "In stock".
