The Fiio X5 Thread

In theory, any charger with the correct voltage and higher than required current supply would work. In practise, you need to check to make sure the power supply is "regulated" and there is a higher possibility that power supplies with very high current output are "unregulated". Unregulated PSUs would put out about 30% higher voltage than specified when lightly loaded and may be a hazard to the X5--although I remember it having overvoltage protection, better safe than sorry

10 years ago I earned my current custom title by doing something stupid with power supply units

Hahaha I guess I'll be sticking with Samsung's 5V2A charger then. Better safe than sorry.

about the build in EQ , just talk with our engineer, a solution as below:

all the EQ mode can be customed in the new firmware. it means you can change the EQ setting and them save it to what every you need for rock, classic ...

will it a better solution ?

Should also have option to revert to default/stock settings in case u mess up the EQ and want to start fresh.

Would also be nice to have one for HipHop. Or does anyone who listens to HipHop with an X5 have EQ settings they are willing to share?

Max outputs are 8Vpp and 150mA, that's at load, and other components inside probably draws additional.

5V2A probably charges quicker than usb 2.0 which is half an amp output.  That all depends on how much current the battery charging circuit allows.

My X5 came with the clear/grey silicone. I thought this was changed to black? Does this mean i got an earlier unit?

there are two different silicon case in 2st batch.

According to certain Chinese website.  X3 and X5 outputs more power at less than 1% THD point than the DX90.  This means good news for those that have X3 and are purchasing X5 with less sensitive headphones since it will give you more power for those less sensitive headphones without providing lots of distortion.

This is just measurements, listening sessions may differ.

this is tested by the funder of the most famous Chinese forum about headphone, same as Jude in Head-fi.

@JamesFiiO, I know others have said this already, but it is really impressive the way you and Joe keep this forum consistently informed. Having experienced wide ranging examples from other manufacturers (some good, some not so good) it is wonderful to see what Fiio is doing to firmly establish itself as a company with clear vision for its products, but also an ear to the community. Thank you for being so open with us all, and for making and supporting such great products!

Oh yeah, and another thing.  This was at 32 Ohms.  THD could differ at different loads, so don't hold your breath.

Edit:  Fiio has 16 ohms 460mW with <1% THD, so I'm guessing the 28mW@300 ohms is also <1% THD?

Would be nice if the Next/Previous buttons (bottom left and right) could be used a PAGE DOWN/PAGE UP buttons and use the wheel for fine tuning to the song. I'm gonna get carpal tunnel scrolling the wheel over and over to reach the bottom!
