Just wanted to make sure it isn't just me...the X5 is kinda slow right?

It takes 10 seconds turn on, and about 3 seconds to display the new song you select

Sacrificing a bit of software speed for SQ doesn't bother me too much, but I just wanna make sure I don't have a faulty device. No one seems to mention it itt

uhhh, idk about everyone else but mine is not nearly that slow. Have you upgraded to the most recent firmware?

If it's the one where the just introduced playlists, then yeah I have. I have about 110gb of data in it, so maybe that's the issue?

Update: a couple of issues with the new firmware with larger file limit. Two freezes so far. Both happened while scrolling through artists when the playing track ended. Also, scrolling by category is normal speed but when I go to the cards and browse, there is a noticeable lag between when I stop scrolling and when the list on the screen stops moving.

Can I get more input on this? ^

Okay. I am needing my portable fix. Ordered one of these again and it is great since it appears the file cap will be fixed, although I mainly use the folders to browse.

I also ordered the hs6 has anyone used that to stack the P627M? I am stoked to hear the X5 lineout to the Portaphile.

I just received my X5 and E12 and i just want to make sure im not missing something before i send the E12 back.  It worked fine through a song and i stopped for dinner and when i came back to it it no longer worked. It has a full charge and the blue light is on.
I also reset it, anything in settings on the X5 i may have missed?  Thanks for any ideas. I also posted in the E12 section.

Liking the beta firmware. As James mentioned, there is a slight lag with some of the controls. Selector overshoots by a couple lines when browsing files. Volume also overshoots a bit when lowering / raising. As another user mentioned, it's funny but there is absolutely NO overshooting when browsing Categories. Hopefully this can be refined with future firmware versions.

Best of all, all of my files are now cataloged in the DB and it was really fast - much, much faster than adding the same number of files to the iBasso DX90's DB!!!

Under FW2.2, my X5 takes ~10 s from a long press to turn on to being in a position to where I can select music.

Once underway, speed of operation is good enough; when I press a button, something happens quickly enough that I don't notice any lag.

Yes, I'd like the power-up cycle to be quicker, but for me, this time is reasonable considering the dual core 600MHz CPU.

I take it you've made sure it was the E12, not the X5?

if you haven't, try turning the X5 off, unplug the E12 cable from the X5, turn it on, and plug it back in.

Also make sure you use line out.

And have you tried to play the same file through headphones from X5 directly, instead of through E12?

when powering on the X5, pressing the button for 2 - 3 seconds should be long enough, then it takes you through the boot animation, and you should be able to use it straight away after that.

So 10 seconds from the rainbow coloured "welcome".

depending on the size of your album art, it might take longer for the X5 to show that it's changed tracks, but the songs should change directly.

speed of the CPU matters only as much as the code that has been written to create the firmware...

Just installed the 2.31 Beta FW an hour ago and so far so good....
Uploaded 10.700 songs and till now they play well without any serious issues.

However, most of the jpg files that were shown under FW2.2 are not recognised in this FW anymore. So, no pictures unless embedded, just like under FW2.0 before.

I guess that's the danger of a beta product, That sounds like a regression issue, they should have maintained the same functionality as the prior version, if not then it is a change which should hopefully be in the list of firmware changes when released. My take; wait until the official release is out else you might be dealing with an unfinished product.

Two things:

1. I've just posted on my longest reviews on the X5 in the Head Gear section.

http://www.head-fi.org/products/fiio-x5-high-res-portable-music-player/reviews/11634

Let me know what you think!

2. If I remove artwork from my files, will the speed of the X5 improve? I'm not dissatisfied with the speed as is, but since I've only got artwork on half of my library, I'll sacrifice it for the sake of consistency and improved performance.
