For whoever was wondering about the X5 scroll wheel, it's an Alps digital encoder, part no. SRGP40. I don't know which of the technologies mentioned it uses (it may even be neither). You can look up the part number and download the datasheet for it online.

Thanks Joe, the encoder looks pretty sturdy. That should alleviate any reliability concerns.

I know most of the impressions so far are with a short period with the player however I am
liking what I heard so far, now I would really like to hear someone putting it through the pace to see how well it measures up against other players. Hope to be able to review it very soon so I can compare it with what I have.

I am getting extremely excited about what's coming up this coming year alone, it'll be a great way to start the new year.

The gold color really changed the complete look !!! for better. Hope this becomes the norm.

Fiio, please consider my suggestion to make it the norm to be "Gold" color, as it looks much better in every way I look at it.

And i would pick a dark red... That would redeem the overall look a little i think.. Especially against the dark grey/black/

I'd prefer a user-replaceable buttons with many colors all day long

Gold buttons look cheap & tacky, like a certain old (but admittedly good-sounding) DAP from one of your competitors.
