I've read that the Xenns Up has good bass
Love the way that one looks but, things have gotten so competitive in that price range and that one has been out for awhile like the Tea 2, I definitely want to see what they have up next. The Top looks fantastic as well (and also an incredible name lol).

The Top has been on my must-try list for awhile but I haven't secured the funds lol. Hopefully I'll get to try it someday. I recently acquired the OG Tea because it's such a cult classic. It's not my favorite though. I would say a solid 6-7 out of 10. To me it has a very slight metallic/tinniness to the treble and it wears on me over time. Haven't heard the Tea 2 though.

thanks! Could you compare Variations vs Ms5 in terms of technicalities as dynamics, soundstage, imaging ...

I just published a full review of the Astell & Kern SR35! You're invited to learn more about this overlooked gem here.
Completely agree with your conclusion about A&K SR35; in particular, pro's & con's.

I can highly recommend Dignis Gladius case for extra protection and a premium look. :relaxed:

Moreover the microSD card slot is accessible without removing the player from the case.
The official A&K case does not provide this feature.

As I also own A&K SR35 and Cayin N8ii, I find them both complementary IMHO.

What is a passive radiator?
The Passive Radiator (PR) driver (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_radiator_(speaker)) is a unique transducer type, where it is placed in the same acoustic chamber as another "working" driver. The PR has has no voice coil or magnet, and isn't hooked up to an electrical circuit or other amplifier.

So when the other "working" driver vibrates and generates sound waves, the PR also catches these waves and vibrates at its own resonance (usually at the bass frequencies). In a way, it reduces the effort of the "working" driver, as the PR is utilizing unused byproduct sound waves to move.

This technology is used in speakers, where it is useful in smaller acoustic chambers where there is insufficient space for venting. In CHIFI IEMs, the recent Shuoer DZ4 and Simgot EA2000 purportedly utilizes this tech, but for it to work, the enclosure should be sealed together with the other driver, which apparently wasn't the case with the DZ4 (so that IEM was perhaps a bit gimmicky).

Sounds kinda like they could just add some wires and put a working driver in lol.

I’m pretty sure it’s the effect of having another diaphragm extend in reverse (motion) of the actual driver while keeping air-pressure the same. Thus no air-pressure build-up to work against the driver extension and retraction, as the chamber is maybe airtight? Or if it’s not airtight, it’s tuned. As it looks like 2 air-vents. Truly I don’t know what I’m taking about. Lol :)

Theoretically, the benefit is that the PR is an added driver that doesn't draw power, by utilizing unused sound waves.

Additionally, in some smaller acoustic chambers where there is insufficient space for venting, the PR (if implemented well) can give additional bass excursion without the need for vents or extra wires/voice coils.

At the end of the day, audiophiles are like magpies drawn to shiny things. A new exotic driver or exotic diaphragm material hits our shores, and the audiophiles will flock to it for their 15 minutes of fame. Until the next hyped tech comes out.

Decided to buy the Quintet from Linsoul at $192.00 total. A decent deal and my only transaction for this current sale cycle.
Such a special IEM, and in a way a sleeper where even now reviewers are making their reviews known about the character and benefits of just what Kiwi ears did. That’s one IEM I reviewed before anyone had it, and I found a home with the sound and I hope you do too. Mark my words, the Quintet will be talked about even in 2024.

I have been listening to the Rokubuds Saber 3 and they are the best buds I have heard. If the Quintet is as you said and these buds are killing then that is my goal. Quality over quantity and less spent. Add those to the Chord Mojo 2 and the Focal Bathys and I am satisfied with my purchases for the year.

Kinda disappointing they took away the 2-pin connector and went MMCX-only. Sure, having two connector types on the same IEM might be completely unnecessary, but at least it was interesting.

The OG Janus IEM has both an MMCX and 2-pin port on the same housing. Wonder what will happen if someone plugs in 2 cables from 2 sources at the same time hahaha.

My understanding is the new Janus 3 loses the 2-pin but sounds better than the previous versions of the Janus.
