Thank you,
love reading your passion on this hobby as well.

well, apparently Waifu box have evolved. We have IEM waifu lore now,
CVJ Night Elf (3DD)

1716539068448.jpeg

The setup is more interesting than i thought, three different DD (1x 6mmDD, 1x 10mmDD, 1x 8mmDD)
that spiky treble section tough
and yes, there is actual waifu print on the IEM , the graph have that tiny section in the corner and 1 full page of waifu lore in the marketing materials.
---

Its been a hot minute without new waifu iem from TruthEar... that i follow.. when/what was the last one?
Anyhow TruthEar Gate.
no additional info, but it seems to be 1DD. maybe Hola replacement?

If Gate is a Hola replacement,
well, it going to fight with new TangZu Wan'Er Studio Edition... which hopefully not just a reshelled Wan'er

Prepare for the next wave of 3DD. The next fad?! The CCA Trio lit the fuse, and now the wave! Would have been worth checking out if not for that manga crap on the faceplate. Also for mysterious purple and black color....Kiwi Ears Quartet says hold my beer.

FYI > DUNU DaVinci FQ response curve and some selected comparisons (normalized 60dB@500Hz)

EDIT: sorry something f'd up my attached graphics... hope it works with the second try

The first thing I see on these graphs is that the Davinci has less treble presence and air that ever single compare except for the notoriously dark Hisenior. LOL Beautiful shells, but really bassy with polite treble. Not my thing, but I'm sure those with bass prominent playlists will be in heaven?

Discovery! Letshuoer dt03 DAC/amp coming soon. Wonder what will set this one apart from all the other ones coming out 🤔

Maybe the RGB makes it unique? At least for a dongle DAC...

From 1989 (when I bought my first earbuds, which were some Kenwood buds with metal body. and I absolutely moved them! Those were amazing for the time, and I never found them again, even after they accidentally broke, because I had worn off the model #) to 2007, I bought and wore buds almost exclusively. Now I would own the random Sony headphone, but I never liked the uncomfortable mobility of headphones, so I owned Sony, Kenwood, Philips, Sanyo, and I'm sure i'm forgetting other brands. Then in 2007, I went to a FYE at the mall, and they had Skullcandy earphones advertised for the first time on a rack right at the entrance, for $6.99 on sale. An employee let me listen, and I was blown away by the small size, but the expansiveness and the BASS (yeah, in those days I was a basshead)! I bought a pair of Skullcandy Ink'd and the rest is history. I never went back to buds. IEM's from that day forward, but that buds journey was a really long one for many years.
I think as a kid who grew up with the Nintendo Gameboy, I was traumatized by the ear buds that was included and how uncomfortable they were. I pretty much avoided buds like the plague ever since, at least up until recently to see what I was missing out on. Getting into chifi IEMs has been life changing and I just can't believe how good a lot of budget sets are compared to headphones that I have been buying under $200, just so much more satisfying.

Look what the cat dragged in... absolutely initial impressions (be aware): Noooiiice, I like it, and in the sub 200 class already audibly one of my best sets.
  • Sweetspot momentarily with my DX260 and 4.4 balanced: "Short delay fast roll off" filter, high gain (as always anyway, lol)
  • Fit is OKish with AZLA Clear tips
  • Cable is indeed very nice, thick and stable, but not rigid. Face plates also cool (Black color option)
  • They need a little bit more juice compared with the DUNU SA6 MkII and the Himalaya > roughly 10-15% to reach my most comfortable loudness level
I don't want to say too much more in regard of sound sig... it's a bit too early, but will follow up if you wish.

Woohoo ! We found our saint ! Teach us, Master ! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
!7 months? Have to go back to 2012, and my halcyon days of ignorantly and blissfully listening to my Sennheiser CX300ii to find me going 17 months without a purchase. I remember paying $70 in 2009 at Bestbuy for those Senns, after my then wife bought be a Sony E545 DAP, and she and my mom weren't too happy with spending that amount of money on a "TOTL" purchase like that. LOL They were the most expensive IEM at Bestbuy minus the Beats line. They and that DAP outlasted that wife, and actually lived to meet my current wife, but 2012 coincides with those Senns breaking in bed accidentally, and my logging into Head-fi for the first time to see what would be a good upgrade suggestion for my Senns? It's no coincidence that I never went longer that 9 months without a purchase since.
No matter how much I teach you, you won't listen.
Well said, Sensei. Well said. LOL

I was interested in it, too and I found the AFUL Explorer graph on Jaytiss Squig.link (and the DaVinci one still only on Super* Review)... so I tried to find a common target curve which I could actually compare the two graphs with each other. Result: Precogvision's target curve, again normalized at 60db and 500Hz.

EDIT: wish I could've compared with the Harman target curve, but Super* Review only offers an "adjusted Harman" curve in his Squig.link, and Jaytiss the raw Harman, so I had to use a target which matched both, but at least it gives you a rough comparison.

Here you go:

Explorer seems like it is right down my alley, if we go by GRAPHics only, but by that alone, this seems like it's got my name on it (the FreeWheelinAudioLuv x Aful Explorer?? Nah? LOL).

I thought it might be too warm/dark since you prefer brighter, more treble focused stuff?

Westone isn't a brand we see much of here on Head Fi. I have just received these two models for review. These are the AM Pro X30 (3BA) and MACH 60 (6 BA).

1000013679.jpg

I already have the AMPro X10 and the MACH 70, both of which impressed me. You can find my reviews of them here:

https://audiosolace.wpcomstaging.com/westone-mach-70-review/

https://audiosolace.wpcomstaging.com/westone-am-pro-x10/

Meanwhile can anyone produce a showcase page for the Westone AM Pro X30? TIA.

Details of product:

Westone was SUPER HOT back in the days of 2012-2013 when I first found head-fi. They were one of the bosses along with the UE TF10, Shure SE535 and later SE846, Hifiman RE262, and Phonak Audeo PFE232, just to name a few (I'm sure I'm leaving out some legendaries). All of them way too expensive for my budget, so I only ended up with the TF10 and the RE262, and I've never been able to try the Westones.

To add to the suggested tunes in this thread, this track is always amongst the first I try with new gear.

An incredible combination of lightning quick UK drum and bass beats and a gigantic feeling sci-fi inspired orchestral sound with so many awesome elements. The whole album was my favorite album of the entire year. Totally worth a listen and a fabulous stress test for any audio equipment.

The Explorer looks like a I wish I was a DaVinci attempt , I am a little worried the E3 is going to sound a bit flat no pun intentionally done.
Maybe a little bit. I still dig that set. The bass quality and texture is deep, and it vibrates in ear like the Scarlett mini. Not saying it's the best set, but I love it a lot. Very special set IMO for that price.

The way you describe it is a similar way I describe my Aful MagicOne. It's just...nice. Like really nice. So pleasant and so darn comfortable. Easily my most comfortable IEM. Making me super excited to try the Explorer if it's more of that feeling!

I like the bass and upper mids on the Explorer much more that the Magic One. Magic one is a good set for a BA set, and makes a LOT of u shaped sets irrelevant at least to me.. Whenever I hear it, I think... "This is how much..." It's an easy recommendation for me.

Torch bearers of the all-BA IEMs camp.

1. Night oblivion Butastur (10 BA)
2. 7th Acoustic Supernova (6 BA)
3. SoundRhyme SR8 (14 BA)
4. FlipEars Aether (4 BA)

All these IEMs are amazing in their own way. Good technicalities, nice enjoyable bass, good details and musical mids is what their basic characteristics are. You can’t go wrong with any of these.
