I also hear the voices slightly behind.
But, at least in my case, it's not a phase problem.

I deliberately inverted the phase of L versus R with ROON's DSP, and the sound noticeably degrades EVERYTHING, including vocals.

That is weird. I suppose it is possible that there could be something out of phase internally.

This is an IEM that has reignited the flame of single dynamic driver IEMs in my heart, F Audio Dark Sky. I would like to thank my dear friend @Ace Bee for selling his unit to me, This IEM feels so underrated. It has the perfect balance in the sound, the bass is literally bone rattling but doesn't sound over-powering or controlling the output. It comes whenever called for and slams like a truck, never heard such a clean mid-bass presentation in an IEM. It is well-controlled as well. Not to mention the charming midrange, the vocals sound so lively and organic that I am drooling over London Grammar right now. Female vocals sound so rich, and with the R6 Pro II the intimacy of AKM is there for vocals. Literally a deadly combo for vocal lovers.

Treble is nicely done here, we have a good amount of details and smooth, rounded notes. There is no noticeable sibilance or fatigue even at louder volumes. The treble is also quite open, I don't notice any signs of congestion with the set, literally started listening to this yesterday and I am not able to put the Dark Sky down at all!!

If I can find one used for around $120 or so, that might be the choice. Maybe not quite warm like you said, but maybe warm/neutral? Great sound stage and seems like a solid choice for something cozy, engaging, and easy to listen to. Should go well quite nicely with ambient and drone. Thank you for the suggestion.



Definitely not a bass head. I don't like having it bleed into the mids or anything. I prefer a tight bass with somewhat of a punch.

Thank you for the suggestion. It looks like I have some deciding to do between the Hook X and the ones that you mentioned.

If you like tight bass you could consider an all BA design. I enjoy Ambient, the KZ AST and BA10 sound great with this genre. I recently listened to this on the BA10, totally enfolding:

I dunno if you heard the 41T but it is a fantastic set. If you put 41T and SR5 on a spectrum, 41T is more relaxed and smooth and SR5 is more energetic and detailed. Flame is a slightly retuned/branded 41T. So if you like smooth and relaxed, you should take them up, honestly

Thank you for the suggestion. It would be nice if it had higher sensitivity when not at my main setup though. Amplification isn't an issue since I have plenty of amps. Just not portable ones.

When looking at something used for around $120 or so, is there another suggestion that you have? That way I could technically get something that would be more expensive if it were new (better value).

Audiosense AQ4 was selling for around $100 around 11/11, Xmas and New Year. So Summer sale on AE is in a bit over a month, where it might come up again. Very good choice if you want warm bassy hybrid that doesn't muddy up the mids. Tipsy TTROMSO and SR1 look decent options too if you want single DD.
