I got here by ordering a pair from amazon.co.uk. and on my detailed card statement appears "cn alibaba technology hangzhou" which means the seller from amazon buys them from there.

OK. Let me explain in more detail:
I ordered: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Denon-AHD5000-Closed-Stereo-Headphones/dp/B000OVYXUI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334344775&sr=8-1 from here, when I checked the card statement saw this amongst others "191.48 USD paid to CN alibaba technology HangZhou" the only explanation I've found is that the suppliers are one of these chinese vendors who are enlisted to "alibaba" store.

Aliexpress is only a B2B/B2C platform, like ebay is a C2C platform.
 
Aliexpress uses Alipay which is a secure service that helps protect your payments when buying and selling on Alibaba.com. Alipay allows you to track your order and payment is only released to the supplier after you confirm delivery. So, it’s similar to any other escrow service.
 
Some sellers might be legit, while others might be scammers. However, if they sell brand names, it is likely a scam selling a fake product.
