in my opinion it will be hard for Sony to do something better than ex1000 in terms of coherence, tonal balance
in combination with 1z is the same league as Se5ult, Obravo eamt2c, Pf x-g
Sony mdr ex1000 forever

So the cable I bought through eBay arrived today. The connectors fit perfectly. For the "low" asking price it's decent enough, hardly any detectable microphonics and 2.5mm balanced plug is of good quality. I'm not a fan of the wood beads but that's just a slight quibble. The important thing is the fit and it sounds okay. I grabbed the first available 2.5mm equipped DAP I had lying around which turned out to be the R6. Yes, cable works as hoped.I recommend it although delivery took a loooooong time.

Sony got lucky with having a good designer for the EX1000 (Bandai San), and this is not his project. He's making customer in-ear monitors with Sony now.
We'll have to see how well the different designer did with the new ier product line. First thing is, definitely not keeping the price down! Inflation hasn't gone up that much over the years.
Received the mandarin tips yesterday. Changes the sig quite a bit from the Sony stock tips. Adds some weight to the low end and smoothes the treble, mids are more forward especially vocals. They're pretty comfy I have to say. I feel like I'm losing some resolution but there's some nice tradeoffs. It's crazy how much tips change in ears, especially on the ex1000. Definitely glad I bought them. They isolate better for sure, which is probably why I'm picking up some low end, which is nice as its not muddy or anything. Soundstage I can't say for sure yet if it's changed by much. Of course this is all first impressions and i am 100% positive after a bunch of ABC between these the stock sony tips and the asg sure seals, I'll have more to say.
Why did I think the same engineer who made the ex1000 was making the new Sony iem flagship? I'm pretty sure someone stated that on this thread a while back. I'm a bit dissapointed, but, I will just buy another ex1000. Oh, and on day 3 of the symbio mandarin tips, I'm liking them quite a bit really. I have not changed to any other tips yet, I wanted to really get used to the sound before switching back to the stock, or the asg sure seals. I think between the 3, and the random things on the zx300, I can make these sound whatever way I feel like that day. I'm almost tempted to grab an ex600 instead for around 250, I understand they are more mid forward? Is it a whole lot less revealing? Smaller soundstage? I also don't want to miss my chance to buy a 2nd ex1000, I plan on just putting them away in the closet well packaged up. Once theyre gone they're gone, and I'm not trying to spend 2k on a custom from Sony to get the same quality and sound sig.
