I knew it, since Sony has released the new IER Z1R, M9 and M7, the price of the EX1000 are being inflated, so get one whiles you can.

I got my 4.4mm cable from eBay today, the one that's all copper flat braid. The good news is the connectors work no problem. The bad news is, this is the most microphonic cable I've ever heard, and it's pretty much unusable to me as it stands. I'm going to hope I can cover it with some cable stuff I have and it'll fix it, if not, someone is more than welcome to buy it.

This guy breaks it down quite well.

I recently bought an MDR-EX1000 and MDR-7550; I had been wanting to get a good DD IEM and had been reading reviews, then I saw crinacle's recent ranking on both Sony models so I figured I'd give them a try. I'm loving the sound of them both so far (with the obvious difference in the cable) and they're a great value for their prices.

My other main IEMs are the Shure SE846, Andromeda, and ER4XR but these Sony DD IEMs definitely bring a different 'flavor'. I had been considering the Xelento, Vega, or Atlas but the EX1000 & 7550 should fill that need.

They certainly are a bit awkward to put on at first, but I've gotten the hang of it now. One thing I'm not crazy about though is the EX1000 cable; it's one of those cables where I can feel the smaller cables moving around inside, and therefore it's a little bumpy and uneven, though the sound is good. I did order a second one for the 7550 (though I wish I could have found an EX600 cable to try something different).

Did you get the US or Japanese version of the EX1000, they both come with different cables, on the other hand, you could consider the EX800ST which is the Japanese version of the EX7550, but a lot cheaper and without the fancy packaging, but you do get the same accessories.

The differences between the EX1000 and EX7550 isn't just the cable, they are aimed for different uses, the EX7550 is for studio use especially recordings, that's why you get a longer cable, the EX1000 is a monitor IEM in home use for crystal clear vocal.

The EX600 is still available if you look around, but expect inflated price, some even cost a lot more than the EX1000.

I bought the EX1000 from Japan, so it has the RK-EX1000LP & SP cables, and the 7550 I got new for $186 from Amazon (after a 10% discount and 10% cash back); not bad!

Yeah, the price for the EX600 is a bit high, but I'll keep an eye out for a used one.

Found a brand new set of the EX1000 in Hong Kong yesterday and it comes with the RK-EX1000LP and SP cable. Price is still good at below US$350, and I grabbed it without second thoughts.

Unbelievable from the sound coming out from just a 16mm DD. The bass. Wow.

Would not have gone through all the buying-and-selling (e.g. XBA-Z5, SE846, etc) if I have tried this earlier. This DD is power!

Using acoustune AET08 tips and the bass is perfect!

There are still plenty of them available in Hong Kong, the Sony store has them, and a few upstairs import stores in MK also has them, although the Sony store are still normal priced at HKD3998.

www.price.com.hk will get you many results of who sells them in Hong Kong.

Not really the case this week when I am in HK.

Went to the Sony store first yesterday and they mentioned no stocks.

Went to pricehk and messaged a few of the stores listed and they all replied no stocks and agent could not confirm if they will be available again.

Maybe new stocks may come in, or it is really just left with Japan having the remaining stocks for local market.

Sony ex1000 is now going over $500 on ebay from japan. Another option is ex800st which is $200. I think ex1000 is discontinued but ex800st is not. Am i right?

Any difference between these two? I am thinking of picking it up if there is not much difference.

I think many of the shops still have stock, they are probably waiting for.a whiles, then it's inflation time, this is very common in the Hong Kong market.

Anyway, lucky to find one at less than US$350, which is a steal for the sound quality it produces. Even if anyone found one at HKD3998 (around US$500), it is still a good buy as the sound quality stays in the top tier and better than many IEMs 2-3x higher than its price.

Got my ex1000 in mint condition from E-earphone for about 240usd and a 7550 for SGD129 at Sony Singapore store. What a steal.
