Should I look at Etymotic hf5's, or something else?

The thing with hf5 is that they are quite source sensitive. When I use them with my cell phone (notoriously bad sounding samsung sgs2) they sound thin and fuzzy, but plugging them into a quality source gives a completly different experience. I use them for listening on the metro and for pro sound production.

Ah I've already noticed that. When plugged intot he front audio jacks of my PC, I get insane amounts of feedback or static. With the Ipod I don't get it, but with my PC it's even at very low volumes. I may just need to invest in a decent sound card for my PC. Currently using the standard onboard that comes with most GIGABYTE boards.

Try plugging into the rear jack behind the case. The front jack goes through the EMI mess inside the computer case on the way to the sound card and are notoriously useless unless very well designed, regardless of the sound card. If the rear jack works well you can always get an extension cable to the front like I do.
