Rank the Headphones that You Own.

All mine are budget level headphones.

1.  Creative Aurvana Live!
Easily my favorites, with a warm, mellow tone.  They work very nicely as a all purpose set, though I'm sure there are better headphones for sound stage.  I've worn mine so much I had to replace the original pads with some velour pads, but this hasn't changed its sound very much.  Not very durable, so treat them with care.

2.  Philips SHP9500
Haven't had these long, and have few complaints so far, but also few words of praise.  There is little bass extension, which many have noted before me.  In reality, it does nothing better than the Aurvana's other than having slightly cleaner sounding mid bass.  Still, they are a decent set for the $50 I paid for them.  Main physical weaknesses are the non-removable ear pads which are a little scratchy, and the loose fit.

3.  Koss Porta-Pro
I've modified mine to use Sennheiser HD 25-1 II velour pads.  They are a fine choice for portable use, despite the muddy bass.

4.  AKG K240 Mark II
These headphones have become my least favorite over several years of use.  The caps on the back cracked spontaneously, and it proved impossible to get replacements.  I use the velour pads.  Sound with these AKG's is a bit dull for most of my music, detached, and has no liveliness at all.  Reasonably good headphones for watching tv or movies, but I just don't use them often.

Have you modded the SHP9500s? Definitely improves them IMHO.

1. Grado gs1000 comfortable and works well with my portable DAC, chord mojo or home DAC chord Dave
2. Senn hd800 Great neutral analytical sound.
3. Audeze LCD 3 A bit warm sounding for me unless I use my chord Dave with it, then it's amazing but I'm trapped in one spot.
4. Senn hd600
5. Grado rs2
6. Vibro Aria 6&7 tie
7. Noble savant
8. Focal classic
9. Senn ie80

The GS1000 has a fairly controversial sound signature. What draws you to it?

Not technicality the best but I really like the perceived realism in vocals and extended details mixed with great openness. The individual vocal tones come through very well, strings sound very natural also with drums hitting nicely but very defined not as bloated sounding as my LCD 3. Sound is very personal so I'm sure many like the more expensive LCD 3's better. (I have the older i version of 1000's)

Auglamour R1S. These are like my Grado 125i's in iem form.
Soul By Ludacris SL99. I originally bought the SL99 as my first "better" iem back in 2013. I found another one for $20 and use them as my basshead iem.
CoreCool V2. Best dual driver iem that I own but its detachable cables are its achilles heel. There is a short in the connection,I cannot find replacements (proprietary or obscure connectors?) and spending another $80-$100 is not a viable option.
Auglamour R8. Sound better than the SL99 but a good seal is difficult to maintain.
Yamaha EPH-100. Excellent multi-genre iem.
Music Maker TW1. Good but they tend to sound dull after a while.
KZ DT5. Same critique as the TW1.
KZ ED10. Good fit, good bass but weird mids.

New ranking after trading my HD800 for an HE-6.............

1. HE-6 by far - modded and always listened to out of speaker taps
2. Dharma D1000
3. HE-400 modded and out of speaker taps
4. LA7000
5. MD5000
6. MD2000
7. Ultrasone Performance 840

Inventory of the collection has changed over the past couple of months............

1. HE-6 still the king out of speaker taps of my Pioneer Spec 1/2 vintage system
2. HD700 - yes..........it's true.  Even better than the HD800 to my ears, again, out of the vintage Spec system (tho from the headphone out instead of speaker taps).  If you haven't tried the HD700 from vintage you won't believe/understand this but the bass is outstanding on this underappreciated headphone.
3. HE-400 -  modded and run out of speaker taps it's a great budget headphone
4. LA7000 - at times I prefer it over the 400 for the thump
5. MD2000
6. Ultrasone Performance 840
7. V Moda M100

1. Grado GH1 - my first and probably last Grado. Like the open sound very much.
2. B&O H8 - currently my travel company after my Beats Studio Wireless headband broke and replacement would have cost 3/4 of a new pair. I am very positively surprised by the H8's sound quality, both via BT and a cable.
3. B&O H2 - good sound on a budget
4. Sennheiser Momentum on ear
5. Audio-Technica ATH-M20x - inexpensive but good quality DJ headphones
6. Beats Pro
7. B&W P7 - these to my ears beat any closed Japanese headphones under $600 in SQ - including Sony MDR-1A, MDR-Z7 (!), Audio Technica ATH-MSR7 and Denon AH-MM400.
