i have a 80e i plan on putting in wood cups, and i have a pair of ms1i drivers i want to do something with
i need a couple of headbands, i looked the look of the vivitar, at least i i think it was the vivitar

To post a follow-up: Since the above post, I have received some very nice alu gimbals, 3D printed the first version of the rod blocks and revised the design slightly (larger tolerances, larger angle of movement). It will be a tough choice between awesome but spinning alu gimbals and self-designed, non-spinning gimbals and blocks.

Would you be willing to share the files for 3d printed blocks by any chance?

Hi Jay,

I use these instead of the Vivitar. The headband is a nice pleathery material.

there we go , i thought i'd missed something.  it comes in purdy colors too , lol

ok, another question, when i bought my cable, the guy included some silver solder, but not a whole lot, when i bought the "learn to solder" kit
it came with some lead free rosin core solder, is that satisfactory ?

Some would say yes, some would say no

I use some silver bearing (?) rosin core solder from Radio Shack. Great stuff...others with better soldering knowledge can chime in here...

solder is mostly tin, silver solder has very little silver in it 3% i think
it just has to stick and make good contact i'm a believer in using what works
best for you, i've been using the cardas eutectic for a while its a bit pricey
but a little bit goes a long way, eutectic solder changes from solid to liquid
and back very quickly making it easy to quickly get a good joint, its handy
to have a station with adjustable temperature to get it just right,

that being said, if you have a 10 dollar iron from rat shack and a spool
of 60/40 kester granpa left behind, give it a shot, you're not going to
get better sounding headphones from your choice of solder if you look at a grado driver
the final connection to the voice coil is copper wire about the width of a human hair.

others will tell you different use what works for you
i'm not a big believer in silver cables and such

thanks guys,
i did a little research myself last night, and i figured i'd get the cardas, yeah, it cost a little a bit more, but i'm not going to go through a lot, not now anyway
i do have the little 25w iron that came with the kit, but i've gotten a 40w iron with variable power too ,Tekpower,  it's "like weller" lol, $20 from amazon

now, cups, gotta find and buy some cups
