post your grado mods....
@DavidA has had a few threads with pics of him carefully using a hair dryer.I'm interested in modding the cable on my RS2e. How do I take the driver out of the wood chamber?
I used a very thin craft knife to cut away the glue and once you get most of the glue cut away use some isopropyl alcohol to soften the remaining glue stuck between the driver and cup walls and then continue to use the craft knife all around the driver. I used 4 blades to get the drivers removed and it took about 2.5 hours IIRC.I'm interested in modding the cable on my RS2e. How do I take the driver out of the wood chamber?
drivers removed
finished with SMC jacks, dynamat in the cups
I also refinished the cups since the original finish was looking really bad as you can see in the picture below:
the existing finish on the right and the refinished one on the left.
@WoodyLuvr, the hair drier only works on the SR series and PS series since they use hot glue to hole the cups together and if you want to remove the driver you will either have to cut away the inner cup of find a way to press them out. The RS and GS use wood glue to hold the drivers in place so its much more difficult to remove them.

I just received a pair of these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/L-Cush-E...0-HEADPHONE-/261485281639?hash=item3ce1bcc167 they’re a bit different to my other generic single layer L Cush pads. They seem not to boost the bass as much as the single layered ones, to me at least.
Those look more like the OEM Grado L-pads which have the same 3 layer construction and like the OEM Grado L-pad they don't boost the bass like generic ones.I just received a pair of these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/L-Cush-E...0-HEADPHONE-/261485281639?hash=item3ce1bcc167 they’re a bit different to my other generic single layer L Cush pads. Anyone in the UK or EU got a metal inner headband they want to get rid of? I have the padding just not the inner steel
If no one has one I do have a spare one but since I live in Hawaii the shipping will be more than its worth and it might be quicker and cheaper to try RholuplatAnyone in the UK or EU got a metal inner headband they want to get rid of? I have the padding just not the inner steel

Thanks for the offer gonna see what the service centre here in the UK has, they might have one. Got some Zebrano cups, leather headbands and rodblocks/gimbles for another build, but just missing the headband metal
What different materials have you all used for the metal grill in the back of the cups? My brother is working on some cups for me, but I'll have to round up something to use for grill material.
This will be my first build, I think I'm getting most things sorted.
Thanks for any help.

I can close my eyes and envision myself cutting off a few fingers attempting to cut nice circles out of that mesh!
Use some painters tape so you can draw a circle on the tape and use good quality sheet metal shears like this:

Good sharp shears is important for making a nice cut, its what I also use to cut the aluminum grill material that I used for the HE400/400i/560 grill mods

Nope, still envisioning clipped fingers and massive blood loss; just with nice tools laying around...Use some painters tape so you can draw a circle on the tape and use good quality sheet metal shears like this:
