You might find the bass a little loose after a bit of listening time, tighten that up  with some damping materials and you'll be good to go, it should get even better than what you are hearing now!  Get used to them first.  Ask any sort of questions here about all that too, how to get into them , etc.

Def for right now I like how they sound, ill evaluate them for a bit in stock form. Tho typically i dont mod unless i have a second pair, not only for direct a/bing bit also if i f up i have a back up.
The only question I have is the leather in runner the plastic frame near the point where it mounts to the main frame is broken, left rear and right front. Is the leather strong until I can get some leather or sheepskin and try to make a pad? Also is there a good jack adapter for using these with either directly with the iPhone or the e11? I got one from radio shack during lunch eager to try these, and it sucks, the one that came with my akg k701 sucks too, sometimes you have to wiggle the dumb thing to get both channels right.(verified its the adaptor and not the headphones).

On a similar note, I looked through a lot of the gallery for this thread a few days ago, and saw very few response plots. Made me sad. Also saw a cosmetics ad, and a guy who had shaved only half of his face.

btw, I would like to take some measurements myself but I miss the necessary equipment.

Taking measurements where the idea is to compare one to another (say, one mod to another slightly different mod) doesn't require calibrated microphones or anything else fancy. And as for CSD plots, I've done some experimental measurements where I literally dangled the microphone in front of an open baffle and still got results comparable to those from more careful measurements (i.e. the spots of ringing showed up in both measurements). Though generating the CSD plots from the measurement data is more tricky, since there's no free software as such.
 
And I'm not kidding about the porn. I'm pretty sure it was this thread - somewhere on those ancient pages was a post with very graphic nudity. But the other images in this thread are pretty cool nonetheless.

There has occasionally been some very questionable stuff in the "headphones worn" thread which were quickly removed. However, if the pictures were uploaded to the headfi servers then you can still trawl through the gallery folders and find them.

Looked through the gallery and the first 600 pages of the thread, but didn't find the porno. I remember no one having commented on the images in the following posts, so I suspect it was a later issue with wherever the pictures were hosted.
 
But I did see yoginasser's girlfriend in a bra, and an SFI with somewhat similarly misaligned magnets as in GREQ's Watson.

The headband there is not in leather, but cloth with suede liken texture.
It's usually strong enough; the plastic rim on my HP-2 was broken on all four sides (weight entirely held by slightly torn cloth) but still hold well.
 
If you're trying to make your own leather earpads, you can try. Otherwise some of those (non OEM) Sony replacement pads on ebay do pretty well, granted the adequate size. In the case of the HP-2, you're in luck as they are pretty decent replacement. Just double check the dimensions.
 
Good jack adapters are probably along the lines of the Sennheiser or Grado ones. They have a bit of cable to it.
I'm sure there are others but I don't have as many choices here so I went for the Grado one, works splendid.
The only thing is that the Grado 1/8" plug is pretty fat itself; if your iPhone is in a full case (versus back cover) then it won't fit.
For that you can buy a short 1/8" female to 1/8"male cable (often a cellphone accessory) and trim off a bit of the plastic-rubber on the male end of the cable. Why not do the same on the Grado connector itself? why... cause it's more expensive and prettier looking!

Another benefit of a microphone (there's more!) is that it helps you get a 99.9% perfect channel balance. Measure the response of both channels in exactly the same way (doesn't need to be a perceptually accurate measurement, but probably want to create a seal for the microphone on the baffle), take the channels' relative difference, create a stereo impulse response of the difference so that the other channel gets a flat response and the other one the relative difference, then load the impulse response into a stereo convolver plugin for foobar or whatever.
 
I use this on my HP-50S that had mismatched drivers - results in some immaculate imaging. Works with the full-sized DT 990, too, with equal gusto.

Oh that's good to know the cloth is strong ^_^. Luckily the ear pads on these are still excellent but good to know I have options ^_^ ill give grado a check on the adapter thank you ^_^
Luckily my E11 patch cable fits in my battery case with no problems, there's no long term direct driving these with the iPhone, they're easier to drive than the k701, but still that's really taxing the iPhone amp, also I don't know how well the planar driver handles amp distortion. So I play it safe

Same here. And I just had a look the other day at the local music shop. I guess they are old stock. Maybe It's time to hit them up for a discount.
 
Grado, of course still maintains that the headband cushioning has a significant impact on the headphones performance.
