...heading back into ortho-land again after a brief absence...finished up some T50rp woodies for someone a few days ago and really liked what I heard. Started reminiscing about my TDS16 (non-Kiev edition) and so pulled the trigger on some TDS16 (Kiev edition) last night...hoping they don't have the medieval torture device comfort levels the non-Kiev had...

Not sure if my Fostex T20v2 could be considered "vintage", but they're still in working order. I've changed earpads to Shure 840 pads, so now they are circumaural (but thanks to smaller pad size still retain good mids) and recabled the headband. Very warm and enjoyable headphones, but SQwise my new T20RPmk2n are better overall. Both headphones have proper dampening (felt in older ones and slightly glued fake chamois in newer ones) and feature synthetic wool stuffing to tame all resonances that could occur inside the cups.
I have to state: mk2n are a huge leap forward. Very dark sounding in stock condition, but very neutral, clear and still smooth after mods. Just can't name anything that v2 could do better.
