We don't know for sure what driver the 223 has but there is another Fostex OEM that looks identical. That one is a T20 clone. It could still be a clone of some other Fostex. But if the impedance rating is correct (which it might not be), it could also be a T30 or a T10. But in fact, we do not know for sure that it's a Fostex clone at all (it's just very very likely).

The 224 is a completely different design, most likely made by PMB. The biggest problem with the 224 is that I've so far been unable to get both good deep bass and airy highs, compared to the Dual DK 720. The Dual is also a PMB clone, but with a different driver. I have been able to get good bass, but then guitars go dead (no air). I have also been able to get airy guitars, but then bass is weak (it's like this witht fabric pads, roll-off at 55 hz but nice highs - not nicer than the Dual though and the Dual also has the bass). I'm still working on the 224 though.

edit: Current mod that I made on the Grundig yesterday is promising, although it does not provide as strong bass as the Dual. I have to listen to it some more though.... I have made so many mods that at first sounded promising....

What makes you think that?
DAC is correct in his answer, but it's 90% a T20 i'm sure, theres a v.v.small chance it's a new driver. But I highly doubt it's anything other than that....(still who knows, theres no guarantees)

sorry my mistake then, i thought all Fostex OEM are base on T50v2...

i had crosscheck this post, now i'm sure i missread/misunderstanding about GDHS 223...so, any Ortho member here that had change to compare GDHS 224 to 223 ? maybe, DAC ? or Ortho "Kakashi" ninja ?

( or just making the time to complete the one I started

YHE-50 does not benefit from it too much, basically more dynamic sound and better bass. But I use it with T20 and T50RP and I can't drive them from any of my DAPs properly. It's also more for the office than subway, as I use my ER4 in the subway most of the time.

The U70 is very common, but Wualta and Kaaber tried it and didn't like it much. It usually is kind of expensive too. Also, usually, the pleather is gone so it is important to see that side of the can. I've recently seen one that still had the pleather on.

Right now, it's the Dual DK 720
happy_face1.gif
It has good bass, sparkly airy highs and of course fine ortho mids. Second, I'd put the YHD-2 because it sounds great and is portable.

By the way, if I count correctly, there are now 77 orthos in the list (when I count the orthos in my 120-page PDF file). Not counting stereo/mono variations. Perhaps I should post the list?

Nuh-uh, i'm convinced there are some more hidden ones out there.
Plus there's a LOT of work needed to fill up each headphones page with info, most are empty. Please if anyone has correct info come and fill in the wiki.

There's still a lot of info from this thread thats not on the wiki.

Also I know we can add a modifications guide to each headphone's article, but I think you should create a modification article as well F2d, to put out the general theories we have found in modding orthos.
