Plus there's a LOT of work needed to fill up each headphones page with info, most are empty. Please if anyone has correct info come and fill in the wiki.

There's still a lot of info from this thread thats not on the wiki.

Right. I meant that the list of orthos on the wiki is complete compared to my own list (except perhaps for the Russian orhtos). I also hope that there are more hidden gems to find!

then what's the diff to the other type of Grundig Ortho ? yes, i know the other one using PMB type of driver & fell off pleather pads...

Foster is one of the world's great OEMs for domestic electronics. People have said they'll OEM anything, and I'm beginning to believe them.

You're right, there are plenty of T50v2 clones-- that is, headphones that are cosmetically identical to a certain Fostex-branded model, but the Grundig 223 isn't one of them. Our best guess is that, like its near-twin the Concept CE-H, it has a lowly T20v1 driver in it.

The 224 is something else entirely, and more than a little mysterious. We don't know who made that driver. It could have been Fostex, but there are no known Fostex 'phones with that driver inside.

It's confusing, I know.

Kabeer, if you have that list of HP/YH-3 serial numbers that's correlated with diaphragm tuning, stick that up on the Wiki too.

It has good bass, sparkly airy highs and of course fine ortho mids. Second, I'd put the YHD-2 because it sounds great and is portable.

i c, so the DK 720 are your fave ?.

sound interesting, but it's very rare on the listing..

Yes, it's rare at the moment. I had been looking for it for some time, hoping that it would go reasonably cheap
smily_headphones1.gif

But I don't know how it compares to the bigger Yamahas like the HP1/HP2/YH100. Maybe it's not as good. Wualta was not particularly impressed by the Telefunken TH-700 which appears to be a similar construction.

Whoops, never saw that. Yes it would be great to populate that.

Ok I think it's time we really got this wiki Ortho section filled in, as a concise source of all the ortho thread knowledge. And even knowledge outside of this thread if ya have it

The VectoScan isn't really a clone. It's the same headphone with different lettering silk screen on it.

I have had this brewing in the back of my mind for some time and after being tormented by Kabeer's YHD1, I felt it was time for my YHD2 to undergo a face lift. I can quite happily say that my YHD2 has regained it's rightfull place as my portable headphone. The bass driven directly from my DAP is now perfectly bodied without an amp. They sound MUCH deeper if you hold them to your head and this reflects the old pad effect all over again. The YHD3 may get a better seal for bassheads

. I used a convenient power outage today to take out the files and sandpaper and finished them off.

First a dry fit

note the SFI puc influence

and then the final product ....

I have been tempted to clear out a few times but most folk wouldn't know what to do with the kit and that would just be a shocking waste (imho

Speaking of clones, I can't remember if it's already mentioned that the Eagle H4300 looks identical to the Sawafuji SF-16.

They look great! Are the cups completely closed? I couldn't even see a tiny hole in the back of the cups.
