The mod essentially smooths out the treble, brings the bass under control and gives you a little more top end. Other than that, pretty much the same as stock

thanks.

I'll take a while to listen to them more but initial impression is that bass is clean enough and that I wouldn't trade the bass for top end. I wouldn't mind a little more top end but not at the expense of bass. On the other hand, I'll probably open 'em and mess with 'em because I just won't be able to help myself.

If the bass isnt bleeding all over the rest and the trebles arent muffled, you probably dont have the very bass heavy versions.
But either way a light amount of damping will help (unless you have a very exceptional pair

).

Check out ludo's mod guides, either the bass heavy, or the HP-50 mod will work perfectly. Just use lower density felt if you want to retain more bass. Once you damp it you will start hearing the magic.
(or you can join team F2d and keep enjoying them stock hehe

I switched off all my search tools and haven't been looking - but those are excellent cheap person deals

.

quick ID2 update - the front baffle is the clincher for the W vs L sound difference. They need tons of power to sing though and when they sing, the differences are small..dB

Heh, RelentlessSearch doesn't look THAT hard. Though it could. The problem with yamahas is that it's hard to cast a very wide net for headphone that doesn't come back full of jetskis, motorcycles, outboard motors . . . . Has to walk a fine line.

Unrelated: Wualta (and the rest of you what have a QP55x): Ever try peeling out the fuzzy sticker on the 2nd layer of foam?

Heh I placed a low snipe bid secretly hoping to score it for $5

, but that obviously didnt work. Im very suprised, I didnt think anyone apart from you would spot it....

As for the $30 YHD (model 1 or 2...not known), that was a great bargain, even it its missing the leather headstrap. it only had one view, so someone must have snapped it up QUICK.

Yes, that pad thingy is just like a huge reflex dot. It made the headphones sound overly bright IMO. Peeled it off and I was satisfied with the headphones.
