Hi guys, been bitten by the I want a new toy bug. Need recommendation for a headphone in the $150~300 range that is closed, over the ear, comfortable (HD580 level), and different in sound signature from my Sennheiser HD 580 and HD280 pro (I'm happy with the HD 580, just want to get something different). For use with symphonic metal, games, and movies
amp inventory is NFB12, Meta42, Head Five, and fiio e7/e9

been out of the loop for a while, should I look towards Audio Technica and Beyer?

thanks~

That's a toughie because you want a closed model in that price range.

2nd hand Denon D2000 comes to mind ~ something like the Beyer DT770 might still be a little too similar
to your Senn 280 Pro.

Sorry if this is a bad suggestion but how about Ultrasone Pro 900's?

Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 250-Ohm (my favorite closed cans)

Audio Technica is coming out soon with new A500, A700 and A900 cans (improved sound?)
Also hopefully the current A900s will drop in price for clearance/closeout sales.

Try the Ultrasone PRO 750. They are really good with movies and metal.

I'm using the AKG 271 MKII in the office for around 5 hs a day and I'm very happy with 'em. Comfortable and I like they way they sound (better than the AKG K 172 HD I had before these IMHO).

I'd recommend one of the Ultrasones for a different sound sig, the hfi-580, 780 and the pro 750 and 900 are good bets depending on your budget.
