It's Hifiman themselves (aka head-direct). Instruct them to declare a low value and mark as gift, you'll get little to no import tax. However you'll still have to pay VAT (20% of shipping + declared value) and EMS handling fee (either 8 or 13 GBP).

Custom clearance and processing took 1 week though - Parcelforce is crap. You may get more luck than me.

This is official manufacturer, they are great guys. I got HE-400 from them, shipping to CZ was 18$ which is like free :) they will do whatever u ask them

 Definitely recommend them.

I contacted head-direct via ebay they they said,

"Hi. Thanks for your inquiry. We are head-direct, the manufacturer of hifiman products. But we will not deal with headphone orders from UK. We have give authorization to our dealer in UK to deal with all the orders. Please place the order with them: http://www.highendworkshop.co.uk"

And the site they directed me to in the UK want to charge me £395 for them, there is noway I'm paying that much, that converts to nearly $600, that's a piss take, UK pricing does my head in.

Try to place order directly from head-direct website (http://head-direct.com/) or just order from ebay anyway. Once you've paid, I'm pretty sure they'll just send it to UK anyway. The response you got is kind of a courtesy reply i.e. "we don't want to screw our UK retailer" - hidden message:  "but if you insist on buying from us - just do it"

It is pretty ridiculous that they charge that price for the UK. I agree with khaine, try ordering anyways. It's worth a shot.

I guess that's what we have to pay for 7 days return no questions asked/no restock fee (aka DSR).

It's even more ridiculous with Grado (PS1000 cost 1700 USD; UK price is 1800 GBP). But hey, to get a retail pair of Ps-1000 in Norway you'd have to pay ~2400 GBP

Regarding ebay stuff, I'm pretty sure once ebay "charges" your account, the seller is obliged to ship the goods, unless he includes the reason for refusal in the listing (Head-direct does not  exclude UK from shipping list - hence why I said it's more of a courtesy reply rather than a straight reject)

If they place it clearly in the listing, they're not obliged, and can have any negative feedback left by a buyer removed by eBay. If Head-direct didn't do this, unfortunately they're S.O.L.

Jerg it would be cool to see if your modded pads actually measure differently or not.

At this stage in their development, 'seeing' the change may also help us EQer's realize what 'better' sounds like.

Now that there seems to be 2 kinds of velour foams used also, this earpad stuff is getting tricky.

Who has the cleanest Jergpads of anybody? Jerg?

lets see 'em!

Mine are a mess and constantly in a near-falling apart phase, but they sound great and for those reasons they have stayed strapped to my HE-400's for now.

I think I am going to do the jergpad mod except I am going to sew my pleather and velour together. No offernse to Jerg and his mods but double sided tape ontop of the velour just isn't as clean as I'd personally like my headphones to be although the inspiration is still great.

I'm all for people trying out better, more efficient ways of modding. Personally I have no sewing skills so I resorted to something that everyone could follow - tape!

Some mental people are setting the prices in Europe. Totally unacceptable absurd!

Im pretty damn happy with how mine came out, I'll post some pics soon. When i first did the mod I too was disappointed in the build, it was pretty much falling apart. I then took an idea from Marleybob and stitched the pad to the ring, and yesterday I did the sub-bass mod which prevents the pads from rotating when mounted on the headphones. Basically the headphones and the pads feel like one unit, better constructed.

I also sewed the velour to the pleather to give it a more luxury feel. Anyway I'll have pics up later, the pads are slightly different now in comparison to the last pics i uploaded.

Hey guys, I am looking for amps (and DAC as well actually) to get the most of the HE-400 without spending a ton of cash. I know people mentioned that the E17 does a good job but I am just slightly skeptical because I heard from some that these cans do scale pretty well as well. Which AMP/DAC combo should I go for? O2/ODAC? E17 itself? M&Ms?

Or some options I've seen on Ebay here:

I actually never heard the he-400's from the m&m stack but they sound really good from the e17, it just depends on what you want the e17 is alot more portable and customizable than the m&m shiit stack. And the 02/odac sound almost exactly the same as the m&m stack from what I have heard so it just depends on personal preference you can't go wrong with either.
