Hey all,

Haven't posted on Head-fi for a while, mainly because I've been so damn happy with my combo of HE-400 at home and Beyer DT1350 for portable/work duties

Anyway I just had to post this. If you enjoy electronic music (particularly experimental, glitchy, heavily-edited stuff with plenty of bass), then this release is well worth a listen to put your HE-400s through their paces!

I would also highly recommend anything on Enig-Matik records which is based here in Australia but have amazing electronic artists from all over the world.

^A bunch of free/pay-what-you-want releases there too

Despite taking fairly good care of my HE-400's, the wire near the right ear plug has fatigued and split the rubber. I plan to fix it temporarily fix it using electrical tape, do you guys think that should be enough? I'd really like to avoid spending another $70-100 on a new wire if I can help it, and I'm willing to try a DIY solution if it comes to it.

When did you get them?  I'm sure the cable would be under warranty.

I just heard these for the first time today at the Austin meet.  They lived up to the hype.  I plan to order a pair this week.

Here at the HE400 Impressions and Discussion Thread, we try to promote anti-hype.

So I love these headphones for just about every genre ... Except rock. A lot of rock, classic rock, alternative rock and metal just sound very hollow. Lethargic. Incomplete. I'm sure a big part of that is the way that most popular rock music is mixed but I know it can sound good on some headphones. Something fast and aggressive. I wonder if it might be time to finally check out Grados. Though I've always been under the impression that they're not suited for big heads like mine.

^ The Audio-Technica AD2000 is an awesome fast/aggressive complement to something like the HE-400.

It also happens to be the opposite of hollow-sounding.

Would not recommend Grados, as I always thought most of the models had very thin mid-ranges.

AD2000 is definitely out of my price range. I'd be looking for closer to $250 for this.

Hi, has anyone tried the bottlehead crack with HE-400?
I know its paired best with high ohms hp, but I would love to build one for myself.
I dont have any highoms hp so i wonder if its a total waste of time and Money...

Then I might suggest the AD900, or the newer-model AD900X (which I haven't heard yet). The AD900 has some of the AD2K's type of sound. It's seriously worth saving up for the AD2K though. There aren't any other headphones remotely like it, including the other Audio-Technica headphones. It's literally one of a kind even in AT's line-up. I own the HE-400 too and know what you're talking about with the "hollow and lethargic" comment. The AD2K completely obliterates the HE-400 in that aspect and I think you'll have a hard time finding anything else to meet your expectations.

Ooh, thanks for that. Won't look as bad as taping it up. Local ace hardware should have some of that right?
