Hawaiibadboy, how loud are you listening to the music? Is your hearing ok?
smily_headphones1.gif
Just asking.

I listen at regular volumes for a basshead and push the drivers to the point of audible distortion keys like wobble, warp and flutter or tone blending. If a driver is giving me reduced performance at increased power input it's time to back it a notch.

I have a YT channel and folks are buying stuff daily based on vids just showing bass. Vids don't lie but people do on purpose or not.

Listening to 3 kinds of bass with ASG 2.5 and modded ex800st the 2.5 will give me sounds that are not progressive increase in dB but other sounds or things that give me caution to continue while the ex800st are doing fine.

Things worth noting:

I paid $800 for my ASG and got bad service so if I blow these I am very concerned.
I paid $180 for my 800 so i can blow em and use my back ups or buy another set no problem.

I have never blown a set since I have been on this site but others have ...on video....

Mr Speakers...R.I.P
Pandora VI...R.I.P

I listen to the driver and it tells me the limit not a paper or  slider...just my ears.

If they were the same price I would rec the 2.5 because the blow dryer effect is amazing and the whole unit shakes.

When I talk about bass it is in terms of which unit chokes on power and sub bass boosting first.

Folks who buy cars that can do 200Mph rarely if ever drive that fast but it's nice to know you could.
Bass is like that for me. I might rarely go there but I know I can because I checked.

The set I promised zman2k

Not sure you want these bro. Company is outstanding. This product is....priced correctly

The FLC8?

Have not opened em yet but I got a good feeling about these...

Reviews coming

@Hawaiibadboy Interested to see how you feel about the FLC8S. They're quite the interesting little earphone. Stupid number of tuning options. :D

I'm a tweaker.
These should be a lot of fun

Oh, they really are.

The amount of possible sound characters is pretty ample - neutral-ish, mid-centric, bassy, downslope from the sub-bass to the treble, v-shaped, bright; all from one IEM.

Just don't use the tweezers but your fingernails instead, as they give you much better control (and there is no risk of loosing the filters by "shooting" them across the room).

Titanium coated drivers are made with rapid/accelerated decay as their primary purpose.
For deep bass hits that are supposed to fall off slow it can speed that up in a way that is clearly audible.  Just a warning or consideration to keep in mind whenever you see titanium or the like touted as a drivers coating. The ex800 and ASG 2.5 both have P.E.T mylar afaik.

Wow, didn't know that at all. Was wondering why some IEMS with larger dds don't slam like others. Makes perfect sense. Maybe I can peel the titanium off? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::grinning::grinning:

WoW! Thanks, Hawaiibadboy! As a jeweller and IEM enthusiast, I'm realy interested in the FLC8 too.

I think these will be pretty fun.

The reason a 70mm Z7 and Ultrasones are not on the over ear list.

The sub-bass falls away very very fast. Reason I never bought the Z5. It checked every box for me but the metallic coating has a purpose for existing and that is so the other freq's are not over whelmed by the lingering diaphragm spasms a 35Hz note causes. I never understood why it was needed on the Z5 when it had 2 BA and 1 being a super tweeter.
Having a super tweeter means the highs will be there because it doesn't depend on the rapid recovery of the diaphragm.

Sony puzzles me.

Tbh, I don't think that's correct. Afaik titanium coating is used to improve diaphragm stiffness and reduce bending, the main purpose being better treble performance and less distortion.

Here's a comparison between the Koss KSC35 and KSC75 (scroll down a bit). Both use the same driver, but only the KSC75 has titanium coating. Frequency response measurements show clearly smoother treble for the KSC75, but the cumulative spectral decay measurements show actually a little bit more ringing for the titanium coated KSC75 compared to the non-titanium KSC35.

Wasnt the point to get deeper sub bass and not be focusing on reducing bass and increasing the treble?

You just said what I did in another way.

Sub freq notes cause the greatest diaphragm deformation. Faster cycles create stability. Watch a video of a 15" driver doing a sine wave till it wobbles in the lower notes. Same thing in tiny version in headphones and IEM. Fact is the 3 biggest hitters in IEM are just like over ears....P.E.T Mylar.

No, I didn't.

Sure, a less rigid diaphragm will deform more easily, but in my understanding that causes more distortion, not necessarily longer decay. If the non-titanium coated KSC35 had longer decay than the titanium coated KSC75, it would show in the CSD-plots. And here's another example from a study on different coatings (aluminum, titanium, beryllium). Scroll down to the time domain plots on page 23+ and you'll see that the only significant decay difference caused by coating is in the upper frequencies, whereas bass decay is more or less the same.

I don't doubt your 3 biggest hitters, all I'm saying is that nothing I've read on that topic suggests that titanium coating speeds up bass decay.
