Search for 72mm velour cushions on eBay.

Had my HD25's for 12 years now! Have only had to change the cable once, obviously been through a few sets of pads. I use them for djing and they have definitely served me well. They could have done with a replacement a few years back but even though I feel the sound has degraded, they are still a great pair of cans and it really isn't a necessity.

Hello!

I'll be hopping onto the HD25 train pretty soon. Comming from a hd650  , I can imagine a good difference between them.

Since I'm a keen tinkerer I'm considering applying the HD25 detail and bass modification kit by Custom Cans, as well as make my own cables out of some copper cables.

I know that there's people around that would say "cable upgrades are snake oil marketing!" but surely a change from the rated 4 Ohms of the stock cables into ones with significantly less resistance should bring at least a minor difference!

Anyhow, only time will tell. If anyone is interested I will try - using best of my completely limited vocabulary and experience with audio - to document and share my experiences before/after the modification process.

Most likely I'll do it anyway to keep this thread alive..

I have re-cabled both my HD25's and my Amperiors to White Widow Cable and although its not a
Massive difference, There is definitely an improvement, And you also get a more rugged cable thats less inclined to tangle and break etc. :)

Paul what do you think of the hd25 vs amperior in terms of sound quality? I have a hd25 and got myself a pair of amperiors last week, i am finfing the bass response too be so much improved on the amperior to the point of maybe being too much.... also the highs and mids, to my ears, are more rolled off in the amperiors and overall the amperior to my ears are sounding like a bassier hd25 but with less resolution on the mids and highs.... listening for example to the album opposites by biffy clyro..... on the amperiors the vocalist and the guitars are much more agressive but at the same much natural sounding and with better detail and resolution.... i think i like the amperior mostly for edm.... everything elese seems to be better on the hd25-1 II.....

Tell me whats your opinion on this matter.... curious to know if its just me.... :)

Well for me I find the bass is still plentiful, but a touch more controlled.
Highs are as crisp as the 25's but less bright.
Mids seem a bit more natural.

Mine have the advantage of being fully balanced and powered by a fully balanced rig.
I had the 25's balanced as well and the Amperiors have benefited more than the 25's have.

weird eh?

I have recabled 4 headphones, and the HD25s, by far, benefited most from a new headphone cable.  The stock steel cable is by far the weakest link in the HD25 chain....

Yeah.... The hd25 should benefit a lot more.... XD

Mine are plugged directly to a 4th gen ipod touch...... XD
I am not saying that the amperiors are bad, there are things that are improved of course. Straight from the ipod the sound is obviously much fuller on the amperiors and the bass is also bigger in quantity and a lot deeper while keeping great control.... But maybe i was expecting this with a bit of that agressive hd25s sound but instead i think it is a bit more rolled off on the highs and mids making tthe amperior a headphone with more rumble and fullness to the sound, but at the same time a bit more rolled off.....

Maybe its just me, but as i said i only used both on my ipod and nver tried them on a amp. Got get a amp sometime soon to see how much both improve....

I am also finding the amperior velour pads harsh as rocks.... XD
The pleather of my hd25's is more confortable..... at least for now....

Amperior's dampening in the cups kills some of the aggression.
